Ethiopia is one of the fastest-growing economies in Africa and a beacon of opportunity on the continent. Among its many thriving sectors, the gold mining industry stands out as a significant driver of growth, presenting immense potential for both local and international investment. The Shakiso and broader Guji regions, rich in gold deposits, are prime locations for mining activities. A notable recent development is the inauguration of YMG Gold Mining, which brings promising opportunities for the local community in Shakiso. Employing advanced mining technology that operates entirely on gravity, YMG’s processes are both innovative and environmentally friendly, as they avoid the use of harmful chemicals. During my visit to Guji, I also had the opportunity to observe the activities of Midroc Gold, one of Ethiopia’s leading gold mining companies. As a pioneer in the sector, Midroc Gold has significantly contributed to Ethiopia’s mining landscape through its large-scale operations.

Earlier in April, I met with political party representatives to discuss cooperation on national issues. A direction was set for discussions to continue at various levels. Today, we met again as a continuation of the April meeting, working toward forging a consensus on national issues of importance for all.

Historic moment for Ethiopia as the Agreement on the Nile River Basin Cooperative Framework (CFA) is ratified by South Sudan. This diplomatic milestone marks a significant step in our collective aspiration for regional cooperation in the Nile Basin. The ratification will provide impetus for working towards the common good of our people through the establishment of the Nile Basin Commission.

After my visit to the Amhara Region this weekend, I brought together top federal leaders to review the progress and expedite the completion of three critical projects in Gonder: the Megech Dam, improving water supply in the city, and finishing the Azzezo to Gonder 11km road. Based on this morning's assessment, I've instructed adjustments in project management to accelerate their completion in the coming months.
