Ethereum developers had a busy 2025, powering through two major #upgrades: #Pectra in May and hashtag#Fusaka in December. The mainnet #throughput surged over 100% this year, reaching 2.52 MGas/s as of Dec 13 (see attached Chart 1). Meanwhile, the top 10 layer-2 networks combined jumped 78% to 60.23 MGas/s, led by hashtag#Base Chain at 28.63 MGas/s (Chart 2). Relentless innovation at work, turning Ethereum into a scalability powerhouse.
The key protocol changes fueling this momentum are:
1. Pectra's Blob Boost: Doubled blobs per block (3→6 target), cutting L2 data costs by ~50% and unlocking massive rollup capacity.
2. Fusaka's Gas Limit Hike: Boosted block capacity +33% (45M→60M gas), delivering ~25% more L1 TPS without congestion-induced fee spikes.
3. PeerDAS in Fusaka: Reduced node bandwidth needs by 80-90%, enabling 8x data availability expansion and future-proof L2 scaling.
Shoutout to the Ethereum Foundation and all Ethereum devs for masterfully scaling the network. Scalability will enable more use cases and boost adoption. What's next for Ethereum? Hitting the 100,000+ TPS goal in the "Surge" phase?
