Looking likethe first stretched #PolarVortex (PV) is underway bringing with it cooler temperatures & even #snow to East Asia & eastern North America. Impacts are easy to miss in early September but this won't be the last of the 2026/27 PV season with more noticeable impacts later
Well the cavalry heard the call & are on their way! The Ural blocking first triggered first cooler temperatures & #snow to Siberia, a stretched #PolarVortex, Alaskan ridging & then troughing in east North America with cooler temperatures predicted for Eastern Canada & Eastern US.
Warm temperatures have been very pervasive this September and not much let up in sight. But If you are rooting for team blue and waiting for the cavalry to rescue you & beat back some of the red, I see hints of it in suggested Ural blocking in the recent weather model forecasts.

@wallcloud Yes thank you for bringing up that paper! Of course I agree with you and the temperatures will be determined by the #PolarVortex more than El Nino but of course they are not independent. But for me the biggest issue is that we have no past data to base this winter on.
