One of the more recent developments is a patent application for the treatment of #prion diseases, published as WO2025/194009. It describes zinc finger proteins that are designed to specifically repress the PRNP gene. Since prion proteins play a central role in diseases such as Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, this technology could open up long-term therapeutic approaches for neurodegenerative diseases that have been difficult to treat until now. This application is currently still in the international PCT process, but will typically be converted into national patents later on including in China, Japan and South Korea.
