✨ Happy Birthday Fawziyah ✨
We remember her life, her light, and her legacy. Fawziyah’s story, told through The Push documentary, led to the creation of the #Push4Change campaign, calling for stronger protections for victims of Honour Based Abuse.
Just last week, the government announced a statutory definition of Honour Based Abuse, a step forward inspired by Fawziyah’s memory and her family’s fight for justice.
We pay tribute to the incredible bravery of her mum, Yasmin, whose strength and dignity have ensured her daughter's story brings change and protection for others at risk.
On the 4th September, we invite you to honour Fawziyah by leaving a comment, like, or share of this post. Together, we keep her memory alive and push for change in her name.

@KNFMHBV @ukhomeoffice Naming honour-based abuse is a vital step - clarity saves lives and helps ensure survivors are seen, heard and protected while perpetrators are held to account. Well done to all involved in the #Push4Change.
Huge news for the post bank holiday blues..
Govt announcing today a statutory definition of “honour”based abuse. Our friends @KNFMHBV launched #push4change off the back of our series @Channel4 #ThePush. We are so so thrilled! #thepush is still online!

📢 @CPSUK 24/25 stats are out:
⚠️ HBA = lowest conviction rate (48.4%)
1 in 2 cases fail
Victims silenced by shame. Evidence/Knowledge gaps persist.
This is why we need:
🔹 A statutory definition on HBA
🔹 ‘Honour’ as an aggravating feature in sentencing

🎬 One Year Since The Push: Murder on the Cliff
One year ago, the two-part documentary The Push was released, shining a light on Fawziyah Javed and the urgent need for change. The documentary, produced by @CandourTV and @Channel4, showcases Fawziyah's story, a victim of Honour Based Abuse, who lost her life after being pushed from Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh by her husband in September 2021.
The documentary covers the murder trial, and delves into the complexities of Fawziyah’s experiences, highlighting the dynamics of domestic and Honour Based Abuse. It’s a heartfelt tribute to Fawziyah and her life, aiming to spread awareness in her legacy. More than just a documentary, The Push ignited our #PushForChange campaign, driving long-overdue attention to Honour Based Abuse and Domestic Abuse.
Since its launch, we’ve seen unprecedented progress:
- The sector has united to produce a clear definition of Honour-Based Abuse - progress we haven’t seen in over 20 years.
- Awareness has soared, with our helpline receiving calls from concerned individuals, family, friends, and even employers who watched The Push and wanted to help.
- It has provided the relevant focus on the issues through Fawziyah's experience to gather the momentum to create change, which continues to build.
The documentary was the catalyst, but our fight for justice and protection is far from over. We also want to take a moment to recognise Yasmin, Fawziyah's mother, who has tirelessly campaigned for change in Fawziyah's honour. We stand with the Javed family, not just for the past year, but continually going forwards.
📢 Join us in the #PushForChange.

One year ago, we launched #Push4Change to demand a statutory definition of Honour Based Abuse. Since then, we've made incredible progress:
✅ Unified Sector Definition - Over 30 sector partners now back our call for a statutory definition of HBA, accompanied by statutory guidance.
🎬 Westminster Screening - We honoured Fawziyah Javed by hosting a screening event in Westminster of The Push: Murder on the Cliff, and to raise awareness about the campaign, as well as why we need a statutory definition for HBA.
📚 Training Refresh - We incorporated key clips from The Push into our training, providing real examples of HBA to improve understanding.
💐 Memorial Bench - We unveiled a tribute to Fawziyah at Arthur’s Seat, ensuring her legacy continues to inspire.
📞 Increased Awareness & Helpline Calls - Since The Push, we’ve seen a surge in calls from individuals, family, friends & employers seeking help off the back of the documentary and the campaign.
📜 Engagement with Policymakers – We united the sector in a joint letter to Minister Laura Farris, pushing for legal recognition of HBA, and also engaged other policymakers since the change in government.
We’ve come so far, but we won’t stop until we have a statutory definition for Honour Based Abuse.
📢 Join us and keep pushing for change.
