🔥🎙️🔥 LEGENDS of the IRON MIC: #RIPProdigy Been a fan of Prodigy since before (1993), after I bought his first cassette tape, "Peer Pressure" then later "Juvenile Hell," from Buy-Rite Records on Seven Mile. Though my life was never like that, everything they rapped about and more was happening right on Seven Mile and even worse in my hood on D-Block a decade earlier. By (2003) I was living in China, and Prodigy had already become Infamous. Fast forward to the last time I was in the United States (2013) and I finally got to meet Prodigy in the flesh. He was the guest of honor at an upscale night club. I was with my dawg, DJ Daddy Dog Wali Alviar who, was showing me around New York. Needless to say we were having the time of our lives, when Dog who also happens to be from Queens introduced us to P. We had a nice little conversation, I could tell he wasn't drinking alcohol and was taking care of his health. I told him how I'd been out in China for so long and that it was my peoples Sbazzo that hooked up with Havoc & Big Noyd to record a classic song in Beijing back in 2008. I had to let P know that Sbazzo Marcus Sbazzo was really that dude and that the Mobb had linked up with the illest and most prolific street rapper's in all of China. Prodigy kinda brushed off the story, looking away from me for a moment and taking in a breath. He was tight. He missed that trip to China because he was in prison. I could feel his bitterness and sense of loss. It was as if at that moment he was making a decision. He looked back over at me, with a grin and a sort of congratulatory head nod, "so you over there in China making that paper." Taken aback, I just glared at him for a few seconds in silence like he was the taxman, and then I said "we cool, we cool out East." I gave him my business card and told him that if he ever wanted to come to China I was willing to help anyway I could. He asked for my phone, and proceeded to put his number in it: (929) 400-3!9! Ya'll do the math 🙏 Snapped a photo with the King from Queens, and was out, like the whole thing was a dream. R.I.P. 93' til 🙏
