Claude has discovered a previously unknown enzyme system hidden in the DNA of bacteriophages. Beside the enzyme’s gene sits a long array of repeating DNA—a structure that looks somewhat similar to CRISPR. We don’t yet understand what this system does, but only a handful of known systems share its features, and all of them are able to cut, copy, and paste DNA. Historically, the discovery of such programmable systems has helped revolutionize medicine. CRISPR, for instance, is now the foundation of genetic medicines. But it will take much more work to learn what this system does, and whether it can be put to similar use. Read more: https://t.co/RuEosScSMb

AI is starting to decode the signals that tell cells what to become.👀 That could literally accelerate stem-cell therapies, organoids, tissue engineering, And regenerative treatments that can repair the damaged tissue. “Researchers just developed IRIS, an AI model that infers developmental signals from a cell’s gene-expression patterns.” “IRIS learned fingerprints for 6 pathways: WNT, BMP, FGF, TGF-β, Hedgehog (HH) & retinoic acid (RA) using human pluripotent stem cells.”👀 “It then analyzed single-cell RNA-seq from mouse embryos (E6.5–E8.5), mapping signals across ~40 cell-type clusters and reconstructing developmental signaling histories.” “Actually model's fingerprints involved thousands of genes. It also predicted signaling involved in respiratory mesenchyme development & researchers also experimentally validating the predictions.” This could push AI beyond analyzing biology toward discovering biological rules, designing experiments and engineering cells/tissues. These improved models would allow researchers to study diseases like asthma, lung cancer, and pulmonary fibrosis, in which lung tissue becomes scarred, often without a known cause. welcome to the fastest accelerating SciTech Era. ♥️ 🫡!
