Rockford Fire crews responded to a second residential structure fire this afternoon. This fire occurred in the 4400 block of St. Annes Way. Upon arrival, initial crews found smoke coming from the roof and active fire conditions in the attic. The fire was brought under control within 15 minutes. A primary search of the residence confirmed the home was unoccupied, as all occupants had safely evacuated prior to the fire department's arrival. Crews remained on scene for more than two hours in bitter cold temperatures to extinguish remaining hot spots and conduct a fire investigation. The fire was determined to have been caused by an overheated bathroom ventilation fan and resulted in an estimated $55,000 in damage. No injuries were reported. However, three adult occupants were displaced as a result of the fire and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
