UPDATE: A Russian warship fired a couple of warning shots close to a UK-registered yacht in the Channel after also sounding an alert to avoid it sailing too close, a defence source said.  Investigations are still underway to establish exactly what happened.  From what is understood to be the case so far, the Admiral Grigorovich - a Russian frigate - appears to be having difficulty controlling its movements. It is not clear why, perhaps an engine problem.  The warship is thought to have sounded an alert to the yacht to avoid a collision but it didn’t change course so a couple of warning shots were fired - though not directly at the yacht.   The shots “were certainly not fired at the yacht”, the source said.  The source said that such a course of action was perfectly reasonable.  The incident took place about 20 nautical miles off the Isle of Wight. The Royal Navy has been tracking the Russian warship close to UK waters for the past two months. It has been helping to escort Russian-flagged vessels through the Channel. But it was not involved with escorting a Cameroon-flagged tanker that is part of Russia’s shadow fleet, which was intercepted by British forces at the weekend.
