When coming to the #ragas #Kannada & #kAnaDa, as they are practiced in Karnatak sangeeta today, it is pretty sure they are related to each other in their evolution. The "original" karNATa mELa had similar swara structure to what is rAga kannaDa as it stands today. kAnaDa must have started as a variety of this raga with a lower gandhara.
It is also possible that the lower gandhara happened in north and when it came back, it was taken with the same name in the north as "KAnada" and the original continued as kannaDa.

The name #kAnaDa in all these #ragas comes because of how they all have a characteristic phrase that is called the "kAnaDA" ang. The original kAnaDa having a relation with Karnata/kannaDa we can speculate, and is something that might be able to be musically confirmed (That is not the point of my post).
Similarly #Hindustani music has the trait of naming ragas by the characteristic ang - like "kalyan" , "bhairav" "tODi" etc.
Hindustani Sangeetha also fundamentally based on Karnataka Sangeeta. If you go through names of Ragas in Hindustani Sangeetha, they have suffix and prefix as - "Kanada". None of the Bharateeya languages have that privilege.

Raga Nayaki Kanada
Malkauns Kanada
Bihag Kanada
Bhimpalasi Kanada
Shuddha Kalyan Kanada
There is a raaga called - " Kanada" and another called as "Kanada Kanada" 😀
Then you have
Kanada Deepak
Kanada Bilawal
Kanada Natabhairavi
Kanada shyam kalyan
Above are just few expamples. More than 25 ragas are there I guess.
The origin of the term is likely derived from ancient Kannada musical traditions.
Kannada, Karnata, Karnataka terms are very ancient terms and used widely for various purposes since thousands of years.
