#SamanSaidi, known as "#SamanYasin," a rapper from Kermanshah, who was arrested during the "#WomenLifeFreedom" uprising and sentenced to "Moharebeh" (enmity against God) and execution, has revealed in a statement the severe torture and inhumane treatment he endured in prison.
In his statement, he writes:
"Just so you know what is happening to our youth in prison, I will share a bit of what I personally experienced there. My intention is not to portray myself as a hero, but rather to reveal the realities that occur in prisons, which I have personally lived through.
Being sentenced to death had a severe psychological impact on me and my family. One of these impacts was the shock of my pregnant wife and the loss of our child, followed by my separation from my wife. But what I experienced inside the prison was another world altogether.
During interrogation, they shoved a pen into my nose to extract a confession, and I lost consciousness. At another time, they blindfolded me and took me down the stairs, where one of the officers kicked me in the back, causing me to fall down the stairs.
One of the most difficult moments was the fake execution. At 5 AM, they called me, and in the snowy weather, they took me to a place with metal stairs in a Peugeot Pars. Suddenly, they put a rope around my neck and told me to repent so I wouldn’t go to hell. I was so frozen and terrified that I was willing to do anything to die sooner. The rope stayed around my neck for about 15 minutes and tightened gradually. One of them said, 'Tie it from the side so it doesn’t hurt too much; he’s a good boy.' Then a phone rang, and someone said, 'The elder has said to hold off.' When I was taken off the stool, my knees couldn’t support me. Later, I learned that this is called a fake execution."

In connection with the #WomanLifeFreedom protests, Yasin was accused of ‘waging war against God’ and sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court in a show trial. Although the Supreme Court upheld his appeal, Yasin remained in prison until the end of 2024. In prison he was subjected to severe torture and ill-treatment, including a mock #execution.
Saman Yasin was met at Berlin airport by our member Daniela Sepehri, co-initiator of the Sponsorship Programme for Political Prisoners in Iran. Carlos Kasper, an SPD member of the German Bundestag, had taken on Yasin’s political sponsorship and campaigned for his release. Our thanks go to the organisation https://t.co/xow0m8MFTo, who have worked tirelessly to ensure that Saman Yasin is now safe in Germany.
Joachim Helfer, board member of PEN Berlin, said: »Saman Yasin is finally free, and our other Iranian honorary member Toomaj Salehi has been free since December 2024. This is probably a consequence of the critical situation in which the Islamic Republic of Iran currently finds itself. But it also shows that international solidarity and commitment to human rights can make a difference.« PEN Berlin will be supporting Saman Yasin as he settles into exile in Germany.

It’s a relief that #SamanYasin is free, but his story is a chilling reminder of the ongoing human rights abuses in Iran. Torture, mock executions, and silencing artists show the regime’s fear of freedom. Global solidarity matters—let’s keep fighting for #WomanLifeFreedom
