#sapsWC [NATIONAL PRAYER DAY HELD IN KHAYELITSHA] Members of the #SAPS, community members, faith-based organisations and partners gathered in Khayelitsha for a National #SAPSPrayerDay, united in prayer for the safety and protection of police officials and the communities they serve.
The programme opened with a prayer by Apostle D Deelman, followed by a welcome by Brigadier M Nkwishi, who reminded those gathered of the risks faced by police officials in the execution of their duties. Being a police officer is not easy, and there is no guarantee that every member will return safely home at the end of their shift.
Speaking on the purpose of the day, Brigadier M Mnayameni emphasised that the gathering was not simply about prayer, but about recognising the human being behind the uniform. Every day, SAPS members put their lives at risk to protect others. The day provided an opportunity to pray for the safety of police officials and the communities they serve, while encouraging everyone to confront uncertainty with courage and support police members as part of the community family.
Management also participated in the symbolic lighting of the candle of hope, representing faith, unity and hope in the ongoing fight against crime.
Various spiritual leaders led prayers, including prayers for the protection of SAPS members, management and Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General SW Dyantyi.
In his address, Lieutenant General Dyantyi reflected on the serious violence faced by police officials and the reality that members of the SAPS are themselves not spared from crime. He highlighted the attacks that police officers face while serving their communities, including members being assaulted and attacked while performing their duties.
The Provincial Commissioner also paid tribute to police officials who have lost their lives in the line of duty, including the tragic murder of a police captain in Knysna. He reminded those gathered that some members have made the ultimate sacrifice and did not return home to their families.
Lieutenant General Dyantyi further highlighted the scourge of gender-based violence and femicide, calling on communities to protect women and work together to create safer environments.
In concluding his message, the Provincial Commissioner reaffirmed his unwavering support for SAPS members in the fight against crime, emphasising that the police must confront crime with determination while recognising the importance of faith and community support.
The National Prayer Day served as a powerful reminder that police officials are not only members in uniform, but human beings with families, hopes and loved ones waiting for them to return home. #PoliceSafety #SaferCommunities ME

![SAPoliceService's tweet photo.
#PoliceSafety #SaferCommunities ME](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/HTdScZTWEAAGH7E.jpg)
