Could be a Hot Take....but the term "edge" is the single worst "position" ever invented for defensive football players. It's ok to be a DE or OLB and prove you have some versatility. Maybe I'm wrong but the guys who say they are only an edge typically A) dont mix it up against the run or B) over inflated opinion of themselves. We got 245 pound HS kids who get told they are an Edge and are getting recruited by d2's and d3's. Like Buddy, with a college weight program and a few extra nights at the dining hall you are gonna be 265. Nothing says edge in college football like someone 265 (sarcasm). Guys that says with that skillset are at Ohio State and then in the NFL. It was a made up term by the Kiper's and Jeremiah's of the world who didnt want to label guys who could possibly play multiple positions in a 3-4 or 4 down.
