⚖️🇦🇲Will Kocharyan be arrested?
#Armenia’s Prosecutor General’s Office has requested that the Central Electoral Commission lift the candidate immunity of Davit Ghazinyan, a parliamentary candidate from #StrongArmenia (the Karapetyans), as well as former Armenian President Robert #Kocharyan, a candidate from the #ArmeniaAlliance.
The CEC approved both requests. Ghazinyan has already been detained.
Kocharyan’s lawyer, Aram Orbelyan, stated that prosecutors intend to charge Kocharyan with money laundering and abuse of office.

🇦🇲From #Armenia’s domestic agenda.
Armenia’s second president, Robert #Kocharyan, tried to present himself as a democratic leader during his recent press conference.
Despite the questions, he took the opportunity to respond to popular comments and descriptions directed at him — such as “#authoritarian,” “#corrupt,” “#cruel,” “#usurper of power,” and so on.
Curiously, when speaking about the 1990s and 2000s, Kocharyan repeated the phrase several times during the press conference: “You are young, and you may not remember / not know...”
This phrase gives him away. He seems to believe that the younger generation neither remembers nor knows about the crimes committed by the authorities during the years of the republic’s second leader.
🗳️🇦🇲 Armenia’s Central Electoral Commission has announced the final results of the parliamentary elections.
The following political forces have won seats in the National Assembly:
— "#CivilContract", led by Nikol #Pashinyan — 49.745% of the vote;
— "#StrongArmenia" Alliance, led by #NarekKarapetyan — 23.271%;
— "#ArmeniaAlliance", led by Robert #Kocharyan — 9.923%.
#GagikTsarukyan’s Prosperous Armenia Party failed to enter parliament, falling just short of the required 4% threshold with 3.9893% of the vote.
It almost seems as if the party missed parliamentary representation by a single vote.

🗳️🇦🇲Armenia’s Central Electoral Commission (CEC) has rejected a request to remove #NarekKarapetyan’s “#StrongArmenia” party from the parliamentary election race.
The request was submitted by the “Republic” Party led by #AramSargsyan, the brother of Vazgen Sargsyan, who was killed during the 1999 terrorist attack in the Armenian parliament.
A day earlier, during the final debate on #Armenia’s Public Television, several opposition politicians accused Armenian Prime Minister candidate Nikol #Pashinyan, who was participating in the debate, of the fact that the “Strong Armenia” party was participating in the elections at all.
In response, the #CivilContract candidate said: “I urge you to apply to the CEC tomorrow morning. We are not doing it ourselves so that we are not accused of suppressing the opposition.”

🇦🇲🗳️I have been following the statements and proposals of candidates running for #Armenia’s National Assembly — not from "Civil Contract", "Strong Armenia", "Armenia", or "Prosperous Armenia", but from other political forces.
Overall, one can say the following: many parties broadly agree with the current government’s direction on key issues. However, they disagree with the speed and quality of its implementation.
This applies, for example, to the question of choosing between the #EAEU and the #EU, or to judicial reform.
It would be more logical — and more in line with Armenian society — for parliament to reflect a wider range of views rather than only two opposing positions on the country’s most important issues.

🗳️🇦🇲💰Vote-buying scheme in Armenia
The Anti-Corruption Committee of #Armenia has published materials exposing a scheme involving pre-election bribery.
Here is part of the scheme: a public organization called “Mer Dzevov” (a predecessor of the “#StrongArmenia” party) was set up, where people were formally hired, assigned salaries of 150,000–180,000 drams (about $400–470), but did not actually go to work.
According to released recordings of phone conversations, these payments were intended to secure votes for the “Strong Armenia” party associated with #Russia'n billionaire #SamvelKarapetyan (Tashir Samo).
