⚖️ THE COP, THE NURSE AND THE NEIGHBOR—THE STORY OF ATLAS—CHAPTER 2 🐕 My last post ended with me standing in front of Bedford City Council. What happened that led up to that event is important. VERY important. So let's start at the beginning. Atlas was not a perfect dog. He was a young, goofy, intact German Shepherd who was an escape artist. And when his girlfriend Jazzy down the street was in heat, apparently no fence was going to stand between Atlas and true love. Tammi knew he could be a pain in the ass and needed training. Bedford Animal Control knew it. And by November 2024, Animal Control Supervisor Jose Morales was fed up with dealing with it. But being a pain in the ass and being a dangerous dog deserving of a death sentence are two VERY different things. Before December 2024, Bedford had documented 3 alleged “bite” incidents involving Atlas. 1⃣MARCH 27, 2023—THE COP The 1st allegation was March 27, 2023. An Animal Control Officer who lived across the street called to report Atlas was loose and bothering people. She had called on previous occasions when Atlas was not out. Tammi says Atlas was actually sitting beside her while she cut roses when a police officer arrived. As the officer turned and walked away, Atlas ran after her and jumped up excitedly. Tammi says his mouth may have made contact with her hand as he came down, but he did NOT bite her. There is a photograph in the 'evidence' showing blood running down some officer's arm. But Houston, we have a problem. ➡️Tammi says the officer was wearing shorts that day. ➡️The person in the photograph is wearing long pants. ➡️In the 304 pages submitted as evidence, there was NO medical record or documentation from the ambulance documenting this alleged injury. How did she change clothes and still manage to have blood running down her arm and THEN someone took a photo? 🧐 🔴 Atlas was seized and quarantined for 10 days. 2⃣ MAY 28, 2023—THE NURSE The second incident involved a home health worker/nurse who came to Tammi's home to care for her mother. Tammi says the woman started flapping her arms, Atlas got excited and jumped on her, but there was no broken skin when Tammi looked, so there was nothing to be worried about. Or so she thought. ➡️ The incident was called in by the ER and documented by Animal Control. That call and the subsequent call report are the only documentation that exist in court records. ➡️ There is no signed affidavit from the victim or affidavit/report from the ER in the court records. ➡️ There is no photo of the 'victim's injuries' in the court records. ➡️ There is no medical record documenting the 'injuries' in the court records. ➡️No one from animal control or the PD ever saw the 'victim' in person or her 'injuries'. 🔴 Atlas was seized and quarantined for 10 days. 3⃣ NOVEMBER 10, 2024—THE NEIGHBOR Atlas got out again and headed straight to Jazzy's house. According to the 'victim' he encountered her unloading groceries from her car, and Atlas attacked her out of the blue. Tammi's son was on foot right behind Atlas and Tammi was right behind him in her truck, and they put Atlas into the vehicle immediately. Tammi later admits because she saw no injuries on the woman, she begged the woman not to call police. ➡️ 11/10—The "bite" was reported by Bedford PD who went to the scene and said the 'victim's' hand was already bandaged when they got there. The 'victim' showed them photos on her phone of her 'injuries'. ⁉️ ➡️ 11/11 —Animal Control impounded Atlas, before they spoke to or saw the 'victim' or her 'injuries'. ➡️ 11/13—1pm—ACO Supervisor Morales submitted a dangerous dog request BEFORE he saw any photos, spoke to, or met the 'victim' in person. ➡️ 11/13—1:53pm—The woman EMAILED her bite report and photos of her 'injuries' to Animal Control.⁉️ ➡️ 11/16—No one from animal control physically saw the woman, her injuries, or had her sign an affidavit until SIX DAYS LATER on 11/16. Morales never stated he saw her injuries. ⁉️ ➡️ 11/16 - In her affidavit, the woman says she was treated by EMS and the ER. No medical records are in the court records to support this claim.⁉️ 🔴 Atlas was seized, quarantined and held for 23 days. Then, things got even more hazy, as document dates have conflicting dates on them, some are signed, some are not. I went by what appears in the official court record. ➡️ 11/18—The judge and prosecutor told ACO to inform Tammi that Atlas would never be leaving the shelter. ➡️ 11/20—Dangerous Dog determination was signed by a judge and animal services and given to Tammi, who also signed it. ➡️ 11/22—Tammi receives a notice of a hearing for Dangerous Dog determination for 12/4/2024. ➡️11/22—Tammi files an appeal in person at the courthouse, per her new attorney's instruction. Tammi didn't understand dangerous-dog law. She didn't understand what was happening procedurally. What she DID understand was that Bedford gave her requirements she had to satisfy before Atlas could come home. ➡️ 11/22—Tammi got to work. It took three tries, but she built the enclosure, made the required corrections and did what Bedford required—much to their surprise. ➡️ 12/2—Bedford approved her compliance. ➡️ 12/3—Atlas came home.
