๐ณ๐ชต While the exact location of the source of the prehistoric #Ogunpa has not been confirmed,
it is interesting to note that there still exists today,
a perennial #spring at the bottom of Jemibewon/Barrack road close to Mokola Barracks,
which empties,
together with stormwater run-off from elsewhere,
into the Balogun stream, on its way from Oke Itunu to the #Ogunpa #River at Mokola Roundabout.
One wonders if this spring and the Balogun stream also existed millions of years ago,
and made any viable contribution to the source of the #Ogunpa ,
as it eroded through the quartzite watershed separating the #Ogunpa and Yemetu/Kudeti river basins.

๐ณ๐ชต According to existing textbook illustrations,
the original source of the prehistoric #Ogunpa #River seems to have been situated in the region of today's Mokola Roundabout in #Ibadan .
It might well have originated on the steep western slopes of the quartzite ridge around Mokola.
This steep gradient would have given the #Ogunpa much more energy and thus greater eroding power than the Kudeti/Yemetu streams and their tributaries,
on the gentler eastern slopes and valley of the quartzite watershed ridge.
What is clearer, however, is that the much stronger,
more inquisitive #Ogunpa ,
cleverly found a fault in the otherwise impenetrable quartzite rock,
and started to chew through that *backwards* at its source.
In a process that geologists refer to as *headward* erosion.
