Derelict since 1973 🏚️ This detached, red-brick Victorian gate lodge is associated with Woodville House in Rochestown, Cork. Woodville House was built almost 200 years ago (c. 1800–1830) for the Hartys, a wealthy Cork merchant-shipping family, when Rochestown was open country overlooking the Mahon Estuary. The associated Harty’s Quay lay across Rochestown Road. The house was owned for decades by the O’Shea family, who at one point assembled Zetor tractors in a shed behind Woodville. It was offered for sale by auction c. 2005 with a €3.5m guide, by which time most of its acreage had been sold off for housing. Once our heritage is gone, it is gone forever. Vacant since 2009, the former Odlums building is a six-storey red-brick mill and warehouse complex on Kennedy Quay, Cork’s South Docks. Built in 1892 as the Cork National Flour Mills and substantially rebuilt in 1933–34, it is one of the most prominent survivors of the city’s Victorian and early-20th-century port-industrial heritage. Thankfully, major façade-retention conservation is currently underway, but leaving buildings vacant for years puts our architectural heritage at risk of water ingress and fire. BUILDING AT RISK: 39a Main Street, Chapelizod, Dublin 20.🏚️⚠️ This early-1800s three-storey terraced house — a Protected Structure (RPS 4847) in the heart of Chapelizod's conservation area, between the Phoenix Park & the Liffey — has stood vacant & derelict for 20+ years. Once a butcher's shop (and possibly a school), it retains its rough-dash render and original sash windows.
