The first 3D-printed HEART containing human tissue and blood vessels (that‘s was a World premiere) - a huge step into the future of heart transplants.
It happened…in Israel, Tel Aviv University. A team of scientists led by prof. Tal Dvir managed to create a whole living, pulsating heart with cells and vessels. Researchers must now teach the printed hearts "to behave" like real ones. Then they plan to transplant them into animal models, said Dvir.
In a near future, the patients will no longer have to wait for transplants -instead, the needed organs will be printed, fully personalized for every patient.
