With the #OmegaEuropeanMasters #SwissOpen being held this week here’s a little flashback to 1989 when
Seve Ballesteros was the Champion.
Nice interview with Seve at the end but sadly it’s cut short.

With the #OmegaEuropeanMasters #SwissOpen being held this week here’s a little flashback to 1993
In 1993 Seve played one of the best shots ever seen, here it’s described by Billy Foster and John Paramor.
For context Seve is stuck behind a wall on the right hand side after another wild drive, after many discussions Seve hits it through a small gap in the trees to just short of the green, he then chips in for birdie.
Seve finished in second place behind Englishman Barry Lane

Stricker ML (vs. Munar) @ 4.24 — 0.5%
Stricker – Munar: 1st Set Tie-Break @ 3.81 — 0.5%
—
This price gives Stricker only a 23.6% implied chance, which appears too low for Gstaad’s specific conditions. At more than 1,000 metres of altitude, the tournament records approximately 81.7% service holds, 0.47 aces per game and 0.26 tie-breaks per set. Those numbers reduce Munar’s usual return and rally advantage while increasing the value of Stricker’s left-handed serve and first-strike tennis.
The Swiss has also prepared locally and knows these conditions far better than a standard World No. 300 profile would suggest. Home support, early-match freshness and the faster trajectory of the ball create genuine upset variance against a favourite priced mainly on ranking, consistency and Stricker’s recent physical uncertainty. That medical risk remains substantial, which explains the limited 0.5% exposure rather than invalidating the bet at 4.24.
The first-set tie-break is the cleaner structural angle. A price of 3.81 implies 26.2%, almost identical to Gstaad’s historical tournament baseline before adjusting for this particular matchup. With Stricker physically freshest in the opening set and Munar generally reliable on serve, the probability of both players protecting six service games should be materially higher than the raw market estimate.

Skatov H +4.5 games (vs. Collignon) @ 1.91 - 0.75%
Skatov H +1.5 sets (vs. Collignon) @ 2.50 - 0.5%
Collignon - Skatov : over 21.5 games @ 2.02 - 0.75%
—
The market correctly identifies Collignon as the stronger player, but it overstates the probability of a one-sided scoreline. Skatov has already completed two matches in Gstaad, holding all 18 service games, facing zero break points and spending only 140 minutes on court. That on-site calibration matters at altitude, where ball flight, rebound height and timing differ materially from standard clay conditions.
Their only previous clay meeting lasted almost three hours and ended 7-5 in the deciding set for Skatov. The matchup therefore carries verified resistance rather than theoretical upset potential. Collignon’s superior first-strike tennis should still make him the likely winner, but Skatov’s return tolerance, match rhythm and ability to extend rallies reduce the probability of multiple-break sets.
The three positions express the same pricing inefficiency: Skatov does not need to win, only to keep the match structurally competitive. Scores such as 6-4 7-5, 7-5 6-4 or any three-set sequence validate the handicap and strongly support the total. At these prices, the market is charging for Collignon’s ranking while underpricing Skatov’s adaptation and proven ability to compress the margin.

Rodionov ML (vs. Tabur) @ 2.10 - 1%
Tabur - Rodionov : + 2.5 Sets @ 2.18 - 1%
—
This pricing gives Rodionov only a 47.6% implied chance, whereas the matchup supports a probability closer to 51–52%. Gstaad’s altitude-driven conditions increase first-strike efficiency, and that structurally benefits the heavier left-handed serve. Rodionov is also 3-1 at this venue, with his only defeat decided through two tie-breaks.
The central mismatch is Tabur’s reduced efficiency against left-handers: 2-6 over the relevant sample, compared with 33-19 against right-handers. His qualification win over Huesler partially mitigates that concern, but it does not erase a recurring return problem against the wide serve and high second-ball trajectory. At 2.10, Rodionov is being priced as the inferior player when the surface, geometry and site-specific history suggest a near coin flip with a slight Austrian edge.
The Over 2.5 Sets requires 45.9% to break even. That threshold is attractive in a match priced closely across the moneyline and set markets, under conditions historically associated with high hold rates and limited break separation. Tabur’s immediate acclimatisation should protect his competitiveness, while Rodionov’s serve and superior offensive ceiling reduce the probability of a straight-set defeat. A split-set structure is therefore more plausible than the market implies.
Two correlated positions, but supported by the same underlying thesis: Rodionov is undervalued, without Tabur being weak enough to project a routine result.

It is definitely a bummer to see the top seeds exit this way, especially after their incredible fight in the previous round.
Reports indicate that the withdrawal is due to a shoulder injury sustained by Satwiksairaj Rankireddy.
Get well soon!
