According to @Reuters, China shipped 29 tonnes of #yttrium oxide to the US in July - near-record volume since export controls began.
Same month, Japan's side: the ninth straight month with no #dysprosium, the eighth with no #terbium.
Same producer, same month, two realities. China isn't turning taps on or off - it's choosing, element by element and country by country, who gets what. The US gets yttrium as Xi heads into trade talks. Japan gets nothing.
The lesson for Europe: supply you don't control isn't security. It's access at someone else's discretion, withdrawn one element at a time.
