Top Tweets for #TS10Fest
This was a fantastic conference and line up. Wish I had more time to attend all the sessions but it offered some well needed time for careful reflection on QLR. Many thanks to all those involved #ts10fest esp @Profatarrant for all her tweeting to keep me up to speed!
The final session of #ts10fest has concluded. Another fascinating discussion about the Future of Qualitative Archives and a call to action to everyone invested in that future to promote its huge value and potential wherever possible. @KahrynHughes

Prof Jane Gray's provocation; How do we sustain the space and the value of purposive qualitative research and new empirical research in a context of qualitative data archives and limited funding? #ts10fest @KahrynHughes
Current research funding models don't provide space for the epistemological and ethical work of anonymising data, which requires a balance of data integrity and privacy. This takes a huge amount of time and investment, that is often taken on by ECRs #ts10fest @KahrynHughes
Open and FAIR data: https://t.co/TTcQLjQaeS #ts10fest
To be fully open, data must also be FAIR.
However, data can be FAIR without being open: restricted-access data could be FAIR if the descriptive metadata is openly accessible.
It has been raised that a commitment to 'fair' use of data, rather than 'open' is important for thinking through the ethics of qualitative data archiving and sharing #ts10fest @KahrynHughes

The ethics of sharing qualitative data is perhaps the most challenging in a context of open data. This is not standardised. There are competing positions around managing risk at the same time as the ethical imperatives of preserving voices #ts10fest @KahrynHughes
Libraries and librarians are also involved in taking a lead on archiving qualitative data. In Mass Obs participants are given clear guidance that is written into their research design that data is likely to be used by multidisciplinary researchers #ts10fest @KahrynHughes
Concerns are being raised that because research is funded by public money, this obligates researchers to share data but this is an economic argument that does not consider the participants and their wishes around archiving #ts10fest @KahrynHughes
There are also implications for anonymisation. This is a political, power laden process such that our strategies of archiving qualitative data may further stigmatise, because of our choices around who and what we decide remains visible or not #ts10fest @KahrynHughes
#ts10fest the question of how we decolonise archives is both fascinating and challenging. Are we researching and therefore only capturing deficits in archives instead of the resilience of people in marginalised positions?
On our final (!) session of #ts10fest we are discussing the Future of Qualitative Archives, please do join us either online if you’re registered or here on Twitter
We can't believe that the last day of #TS10fest is tomorrow! What a fantastic 9 days it has been! Join us at 10AM tomorrow for a Round Table Event on The Future of Qualitative Archives. Not registered? Please do share your ideas here and I can feed them in! @KahrynHughes
A documentary about the theatre piece How's Your Father? can be viewed here: @georgia_philip #ts10fest https://t.co/BA7pEgQJ2x
The play was performed in several sites (libraries, pubs and UEA), and led to lots of poignant conversations with audiences. There was positive feedback, including recognition that issues around fatherhood are nuanced rather than binary #ts10fest @KahrynHughes
A shared focus for the theatre piece was the importance of knowing/understanding the full and complex history of men’s relational and emotional lives as fathers and family members, + a shift between individual biographies and ideas about gender and care #ts10fest @georgia_philip
Georgia describes the theatre making process as a process of research, response, realisation. An iterative process to dramatise some of the core research themes using theatre-making techniques #ts10fest @KahrynHughes
The team wanted to create new conversations that tackle some of the complex issues around fatherhood in a less conventional way and with a broader public audience. A shared aim was to generate insights, understanding, empathy and investment #TS10fest @georgia_philip
Georgias work involved UEA School of Social Work, the Common Lot, Dads Matter and Menscraft who collaborated to create the theatre piece. This built on findings from Counting Fathers In and Up Against It, two QL studies on fathers in child protection contexts #ts10fest
