citizens endure the high-speed urban route—
a highway paved in neglected blood and bones,
measured out with #trafficcones.
Behold the mighty corridor, the grand #I35,
where doing seventy-five is how you stay alive;
drop to seventy-four, and in your mirror looms
a jacked chrome truck loudly spitting fumes,
three inches from your trunk, high beams ablaze with spite,
daring you to blink into the Texas night.
Down below, the pavement sings a fractured hymn:
a wheel-worn gauntlet with survival chances slim.
Deep in the tire paths, #rut and #chuckhole stick,
where millions in tax dollars have vanished in a trick,
leaving every lane uneven, warped, and frayed,
a tribute to neglect for which the masses paid.
Here lies the loose road plate, giving drivers no release,
rattling over seams as slick and treacherous as grease;
the surface starts to ravel, spitting grit and stone,
while Greg proclaims from Austin that our greatness stands alone.
He’s guarding distant borders from imaginary plots,
while #Dallas commuters dodge craters and filthy little spots.
Hit the gas or die: the unwritten #Texas law.
Clatter through the #bottleneck, teeth grinding on your jaw.
When rain descends on #Stemmons, the water doesn’t drain—
it pools in sunken valleys across the middle lane;
you tap the pedal lightly and begin to #hydroplane,
an ode to Paxton’s state police, always on patrol,
too busy hunting headlines to patch a single hole.
Look closely at the concrete, read the history etched in tar:
the black, scorched #skidmarks tracking where the victims are,
