🇺🇸 BREAKING NEWS: Matthew Wilkinson will pass on his spot for the World Championships in Tokyo as he will stay home in the U.S. to make sure his foot completely heals up from fracturing his 4th metatarsal at the U.S. Championships final. His training partner and Under Armour Mission Run Dark Sky teammate Isaac Updike will take his place on the team. 🤝 Wilkinson, who finished fourth at the U.S. Championships and has the World Championship qualifying standard, had first dibs on the spot after Benard Keter (3rd at the U.S. Championships) was unable to run under the World Championship qualifying standard. Updike was slated to be the reserve. Since Wilkinson is passing on the spot, Updike will get the nod since he was 5th at the U.S. Championships and has run under the World Championship qualifying standard. Updike has run a personal best of 8:10.59 this season with a third place showing at the Brussels Diamond League. Most recently, he finished sixth in the Diamond League final. This will be his second U.S. team after reaching the World Championship final in 2023.
