International: #CNTV Chile revokes #Telecanal's broadcast licenses, ends its operations on May 14, 2026 Chilean Free-To-Air Television Network Telecanal ended its broadcast operations at midnight on May 14, 2026 (Santiago Time), following the decision of the Consejo Nacional de Televisión (CNTV, or the National Television Council of Chile) to expire its broadcast licenses due to violations against its programming and technical requirements. CNTV declared on May 4, 2026, that the broadcast licenses issued to its owner and operator, Canal Dos S.A., have been nullified, due to technical violations against the Chilean Law No. 20,750, a law that requires all television networks in Chile (including TVN, Canal 13, Chilevision, Mega, La Red, and many others) to switch their broadcast from analog to digital. Chile switched off its analog transmissions on April 9, 2024. At the time when this station is on the air until May 14, 2026, Telecanal aired its programming in key areas of Chile, including Santiago, Arica, Iquique, Chuquicamata, Antofagasta, Copiapó, and La Serena. CNTV investigated that Telecanal left its six regional stations off the air, and it did not initiate a mandatory x.2 ISDB-T Subchannel transmissions. The said network illegally aired a Spanish feed of the Russian state-backed television network, Russia Today (RT), for 23.5 hours, which the CNTV previously sanctioned to allow the network any third parties to include its programming, resulting in a seven-day suspension, a violation of Article 16 (second paragraph) under Chilean Law No. 18.838. Canal Dos S.A., the owner and operator of Telecanal, is a part of the multinational media entity, Albavisión. It began its broadcast operations on December 5, 2005, on Channel 2 in Santiago, broadcasting on the former channel space of Canal 2 Rock & Pop from 1995 to 1999, and Vidavisión from 1999 to 2005. Y como era de esperar, llegó el fin de #Telecanal, razones? Muchas, pero el @CNTVChile decidió ampararse en la falta de uso de las señales que tenía en concesión, en definitiva, no ocupar las señales que pueden servir a todos para informarse o entretenerse. 20 años y adiós.
