With a background in journalism, her interest in storytelling has been influenced from uncovering her Nikkei roots in 2014. Last year, she produced #TheSuitcaseProject, a multimedia exhibit, which examines the effects of the internment and incarceration on yonsei and gosei.

Prior to #TheSuitcaseProject for @nikkeimuse, @kaylaiso’s cnxn to other Japanese Cdns was just her family. She found out other Japanese American and Cdns of the same gen had the same experience - testament to intergen trauma of internment, w/c separated many local communities
