USA vs Paraguay - WHAT A CRAZY FIRST HALF!!!😲😱🇺🇸🇵🇾⚽️ From the beginning, Paraguay’s set-up was clear: they sat in a mid-low block, allowing the USA to have possession, and hit them on the counter when they recovered the ball. But this set-up backfired as early as the 7th minute. The USA, set up with Robinson and Dest high and wide, allowed McKennie to roam the midfield before spreading the ball to the left for Pulisic. Pulisic skipped between two defenders, drew a third to him, and laid it back to McKennie, whose tried to pass to Balogun but bobbled off Bobadilla for an own goal. 1-0! The USA continued to ramp up the pressure and pushed for a second, but it was Paraguay who came close to an equalizer in the 14th minute, as Enciso was left in space 20 yards from goal before dragging an effort wide of the far post. The USA were so close to a second in the 16th minute, with Robinson pushing infield to pass to McKennie, who rolled the ball sweetly to Balogun. Balogun brought Dest into play unselfishly, but could not finish past the on-rushing keeper Gil. The chances kept coming, as Paraguay could not contain the USA! Just immediately after the cooling break, the USA hit them on the break. Pulisic received the ball on the far wide left, drifted inside to find Tyler Adams, who played a sweet ball through to Balogun, who found the net. However, the goal was ruled out for offside on Pulisic. But Balogun would not be denied his goal. On the left again, Robinson played the ball behind to find Pulisic, who had been fantastic since the beginning of the match. Pulisic bided his time and found Balogun, who side-footed a finish past the diving keeper Gil. 2-0! Before today, Paraguay had not conceded more than a goal in their last 10 games. That streak was broken within 30 minutes of this game. There is something home advantage gives you — the chants and cheers fill you with confidence, and it was obvious in the USA’s game. They continued to play with poise, creating more chances, with Tilman taking a shot from 20 yards which was deflected for a corner, and Richards almost heading home a third from the resulting corner. The pressure continued to pile on Paraguay as Dest, playing as a RWB, produced some moments of magic in the 43rd minute before passing to McKennie, who hit a cross into the six-yard box, allowing Tilman to strike at close range — but he was denied by keeper Gil. And before half-time, Balogun struck again!!! Tilman received the ball from defence and played an absolutely perfectly weighted ball through the run of Balogun, who still had a lot of work to do. He turned Alderete, leaving him on the ground, before cutting inside to blast a finish into the roof of the net. 3-0! GAME OVER!!! #WorldCup2026 #USAvPAR
