Yesterday, day 2 of the #UsawaMashinani Phase III field visit took us to Siaya County.
Our first stop: Engagement with the Women’s Caucus of the Siaya County Assembly @siayagov
We held enlightened conversations on strengthening women’s leadership in governance, policy influence, and advancing accountability at the county level.
Through the project, women leaders are being equipped to champion transparent governance and push for inclusive policies that reflect community needs.

Our next stop together with Matts Weurlander, Counsellor and Georginah Gichohi, Program Officer at Embassy of Finland in Nairobi @FinlandinKenya was Rotary Vocational Training Centre @RotaryVtc
Here, we engaged with the Board of Governors and the management of Vocational Training Centres from @KisumuCountyKE on strengthening governance structures and oversight in vocational institutions, which are key to building accountable systems from the ground up.

We also engaged with the Kakamega County Assemblies Representatives Network Against Corruption (CARNAC). Through #UsawaMashinani, we have been working to build the capacity of 19 Kakamega MCAs on corruption prevention strategies. So far, we’ve made great progress by getting CARNAC officially recognised within the Kakamega County Assembly and creating a public participation checklist to make it easier for the community to have a say in local projects and resource allocation.
Earlier today, we had insightful engagements with the County Government of Kakamega, led by the Deputy Governor, H.E HON. Ayub Savula, on the impact of #UsawaMashinani project in the county.
Under #UsawaMashinani, supported by the @FinnishEmbNBO, we are focused on improving service delivery in County Vocational Training Centers (VTCs) to advance social and economic rights through skills development and transparency in resource management.
So far, @TIKenya has trained about 160 Board Members from 40 VTCs in Kisumu, Siaya, and Kakamega Counties. These efforts have led to commitments to support resource mobilization and lobby for increased budgetary allocations in VTCs. In Kakamega, recent engagements have led the Department of Education to prioritize VTC infrastructure development. Together with stakeholders in Kakamega, we are laying the foundation for stronger vocational training and brighter opportunities for youth.

#TeamTIKenya and #TeamFinlandKenya are conducting a joint field visit to assess the progress of the #UsawaMashinani project, which aims to empower marginalized groups to effectively participate in public finance management and decision-making processes in Kisumu, Siaya, and Kakamega Counties.
#UsawaMashinani project also focuses on improving service delivery in County Vocational Training Centers (VTCs), advancing social and economic rights by fostering skills development and ensuring transparency in resource management.
Under #UsawaMashinani, Maseno Transparency and Integrity Club empowers young people to use technology to champion for good governance!
Today, #TeamFinlandKenya and @TIKenya had insightful discussions with members of the club, who shared how they are using digital platforms to engage in decision-making and strengthen civilian oversight at the local level.
From submitting petitions and memorandums on budget matters to county assemblies to advocating for transparency in public spending through radio and social media—the youth are making their voices heard for better service delivery and inclusive governance!
Under the #UsawaMashinani project, we are empowering marginalized groups, including widows, by providing essential information on land rights and administrative processes, helping them access justice.
Earlier today, we heard impactful stories on how TI-Kenya’s legal aid on land rights has helped members of widows' group in Uranga-Siaya obtain letters from the local administration, allowing them to begin their land succession journey.
With support from @FinnishEmbNBO under #UsawaMashinani, we are turning barriers into stepping stones for justice and empowerment!
As part of the #UsawaMashinani project field visit, we are in Siaya County, engaging with the County Administration on innovative ways to enhance inclusive governance and effective public participation in the county.
With support from @FinnishEmbNBO, through #UsawaMashinani project, TI-Kenya has made remarkable strides in empowering the Siaya community. Our legal aid outreaches are raising awareness about the rights to access justice, while our advocacy efforts are pushing for the adoption of social audit recommendations and the enactment of gender-responsive laws.
Together with other stakeholders in Siaya, we are ensuring that community voices are not only heard but also integrated into governance processes.
