First moth of the calendar year!!
Nice to find this chestnut in the kitchen last night, but it doesn't tempt me to put the moth trap out yet!π

A pretty pathetic moth trap, around 40 or so. Mocha was box fresh, scrobipalpa ocellatella was probably the rarest.
Very poor for August..

4th morh trap of the year, and 34 of 11 varieties, the star being this Mocha. Usual early season suspects for the rest.

Nothing spectacular last night, 40 of 17 in the end. A pale tussock on the grass had me excited it was a kitten..tbf, my eyes were barely open at 4 15am!
Can't believe brindled beauty are still out, though, and fresh, too!

The advantages of entering your records as close to the day as possible...in my bleary-eyed state this morning (alarm at 4.15am) I had written this dark spectacle as a normal spectacle..oops!!

Very surprising night, 33 of 18 in my actinic as my mv trap is broke..
A couple I'd strictly associate with the day. Nfg grass rivulet, along with a cinnabar!! See alt text

Terrible picture, but excited as this has been accepted as a county first for vc35.

Thanks for the twitter help in confirming the identification.

My favourite from last night (first since 2022) was this Alder moth, one I only see maybe 2 a year.
Unfortunately, it was lively and flew off like a bullet the minute this pic was taken.
Still, I have the memory!!π

Whilst I wait for my favourite to calm down and get some perspective, my first Miller of the year will do.
The moths are certainly getting better looking as the year progresses!!

A pale tussock. A gorgeous moth, dressed for the British weather, because however warm it is now, a cold snap is always around the corner..
Lovely furry legs, typical resting pose is with them outstretched.
And the size of those antenna..

From a few nights ago, this beautiful White Ermine graced my garden, along with a friend.
Such a striking looking Moth, and those antenna are amazing too.

I need to sort some moth models out (such divas!), but here is a pebble prominent in the meantime.

Work wall moth of the day (behind a downpipe) was this gorgeous Puss moth, of which only one has ever shown in my garden. I love the Vienetta whorls, with golden veins coursing through those wings. Gonna go and have a thigh rub..

Another good moth trap for May, with 45 of 27 species present. Highlight was this Peach Blossom, one of 9 nfy I the garden.
It is fairly regular and common, and it's always lovely to see one this fresh!!

Best of the new for the year moths from last night, plus a pretty nondescript pug that was new for the garden. Probably the smartest Dog's Tooth I've had.
Totals were 52 of 26 species, with 12 nfy, and 1 nfg.

Nfy last night was this buff tip on a finger tip. It always surprises me how big they actually are, especially when they fly off.
Beautiful!!
