"Vancouver housing starts drop by 42%. There’s been a dramatic year-over-year drop in the number of new, multi-unit projects getting off the ground, according to the latest data." #VicRE, are you watching Vancouver? You especially, Saanich? #bcpoli

I did more reading on Bill 44 today. Starting in 2023, it is a #bcpoli housing law that mandates high-density zoning on single-family lots, eliminates local public hearings for compliant projects, and standardises urban development model across the province. #VicRE #VanRE /1

It's wild to me when developers and planners plant trees outside of new multi-storey condo developments claiming a few trees will have any meaningful effect on home cooling. They won't. The only time I feel true cooling via trees is when I'm DEEP in the forest. #VicRE #VanRE

#vanRE #vicRE Plan to include sound-proofed community rooms in new builds in which kids can play band instruments as loud as they want, for as long as they need. This after chatting with professional musicians who say that tiny living spaces stand to hinder #music training. 🎶

The other day in #LondonEngland, I was in a high-density residential area with many buildings in very close proximity. See how they made the close contact more visually appealing and comfortable with outdoor seating, greenery, & interesting lighting? Lessons for #VanRE & #VicRE.

Those who create housing need to be reminded again and again that there's so more to life than utility. Make homes, not just housing, a priority. Life is meant to be enjoyed, not just tolerated. #VanRE #VicRE #bcpoli

Tiny box living assumes that people will do little else in their assigned box other than sleep, shower, & get ready for work. They eat out, socialize at paid venues, work outside the home. It's also based on reliable supply chain. No illness/disability or public health crises.

My late grandmother's love language was cooking for those she loved. She added her own notes to recipes in published books. I have boxes of cookbooks with her handwriting. For me, home is where I have these books nearby whenever I wish to have a visit with her. 💜 #VanRe #VicRE

"In Vancouver, 106% of the share of a median income needed to cover ownership costs. In Victoria, that figure was 80%." This means, if you're making the median income in Canada, between 80%-106% of your income is required for ownership! #VanRE #VicRE https://t.co/lAG7FoxWFb

I figure some major reasons why people get "stuck" in cities are because 1) there's family connections keeping them there or 2) work keeps them there. We need to consider 'non-housing' housing options like more telecommuting, to put less pressure on our cities. /1 #VanRE #VicRE

"developers cater to the investor who’s looking for studios and one-bedrooms to rent out, which is why two- and three-bedroom #family units are often an afterthought unless there is government policy in place requiring a certain percentage of family units." #VanRE #VicRE #bcpoli

NEW - Victoria has now entered the million dollar housing club. (Not a club you want to enter if you care about affordability.) The typical housing in the city is now assessed at $1,073,000, a rise of 24% since last year. #vicre #bcpoli
