Networking with the Elastic Kubernetes Service (#EKS) has layers that aren't immediately obvious. When a pod talks to an IP outside the #VPC, does the traffic come from the pod IP, the node IP, or the NAT Gateway? It depends on where your nodes sit and how the VPC CNI is configured.
The example below tests these questions in a hands-on approach using nodes in public subnets vs private, setting the AWS_VPC_K8S_CNI_EXTERNALSNAT flag to true vs false, and checking access logs to see what source IP actually shows up. Trying these hands on can help in understanding beyond just reading the docs.
