A5: I'd begin by stating that this training is essential, because it is essential. Anything that helps our students understand and address critical social issues is so important. #WAedchat
Q5 How would you describe any training provided by your school or district to help you better discuss Black Lives Matter or January 6 or school shootings or other difficult/controversial topics? #WAedchat
A3. It starts with our tax structure. WA state has the most regressive tax structure in the United States. This is an attack against equity, diversity, and inclusion. This NY Times editorial by @johnnywharris calls out WA state specifically. #WAedchat

A4: Well since I provide a lot of it, I think it's stellar! 😉
On a serious note, my workplace provides equity training, and I do my best to provide anti-racist training. I have not dipped into LGBTQIAA training yet (though I have spoken on it). #WAedchat
Q4 How would you describe the professional learning provided by your school or district? Have you received any training in culturally relevant pedagogy or developing an anti-racist, LGBTQIAA inclusive teaching practice? #WAedchat
All this to be said, given the "liberal" facade here, it's not really liberal. We will still have families that come to us livid for teaching certain texts, doing certain activities, or speaking about certain things. We are not scot-free. #WAedchat
A3 I know at least one T here has been singled out by certain news outlets and blasted on social for reading I Am Jazz. Though she was supported by bldg and dist leadership, it was still a frightening ordeal. Other Ts I know have been questioned about their curriculum. #WAedchat

My wife and I used to live in Charleston, SC. We now live in Tacoma, WA. This is one of the most perplexing places we have EVER lived. And, quite frankly, Western WA has earned a "liberal" award that I don't understand. #WAedchat

@EdTechBham A lot of the work that I do with teachers right now centers on creating environments for students where they feel they can be their authentic selves, and this often involves digging deep into how some folks may view deficit thinking. #WAedchat
