On 1 December 2022, Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar celebrated #WorldAIDSDay in the hospital conference hall under the guidance of Secretary Health & Medical Education Sh. Bhupinder Kumar (IAS).
The Chief Guest on the occasion was Dr. SaleemโurโRehman, who was serving as DG Family Welfare, MCH & Immunization and Director Health Services Jammu.
In the welcome address, Dr. Parveen Yograj, Medical Superintendent of Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar, highlighted the 2022 World AIDS Day theme โ โEqualizeโ, which focuses on eliminating inequalities that slow the fight against HIV/AIDS.
He emphasized issues such as gender inequality, limited access of women to HIV care, and gaps in sexual and reproductive health services.
A PowerPoint presentation on HIV/AIDS, its modes of transmission, investigations, and treatment, was delivered by Dr. Sachin Gokhale, 3rd Year DNB Medicine Resident.
Dr. Poonam Manya, Medical Officer and In-charge of the STI Section, conducted an awareness session elaborating the significance of World AIDS Day.
A poster colour competition titled โWorld AIDS Dayโ was organized with participation of over 50 students from various ANMT schools, and the top three winners were awarded prizes.
A unique feature of the event was the felicitation of five labour room nurses as โLabour Room Warriorsโ for promoting normal vaginal deliveries and discouraging unnecessary caesarean sections.

Smt. Bimla Devi
Smt. Asha Chib
Smt. Sudesh Kumari
Additionally, five โHIV Warriorsโ were also honoured for their work.
In his concluding remarks, Dr. Saleem-ur-Rehman said 1 December is an opportunity for the global community to unite in the fight against HIV, support people living with HIV, and remember those who have died from AIDS-related illnesses.
He also highlighted the growing concern of Hepatitis B and C infections, urging that these diseases should be addressed on a larger public health platform.
The event was organized by Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar Jammu with the support of the National Coalition of People Living with HIV/AIDS in India, which works toward elimination of mother-to-child transmission (EMTCT) of HIV and Syphilis.
