Some of our most regular emergency calls start in the kitchen.
Hot pans, boiling liquid and flames pose serious risk to children.
👶 keep children out while cooking or supervise closely
👶 turn pan handles inwards
👶 never leave cooking unattended

Closing doors is one of the easiest ways to protect yourself if there’s a fire - doing this can slow the spread of fire and smoke
If you’re trapped, close the door, block gaps at the bottom with pillows or quilts. Stay low, go to a window if possible and call 999.

As temperatures drop, portable heaters can help keep you warm, but they can increase fire risk if used incorrectly.
Keep them away from furniture, curtains and clothes, never cover them, avoid blocking fire exits with them, and turn off before bed or leaving home.

Frozen water is deadly. Ice is often thin and unpredictable, with freezing water beneath.
Keep yourself and children away from lakes, ponds and reservoirs, especially in the dark.
If someone’s in trouble, don’t go in - call 999 and ask for the fire service.
