🚨An Open Letter to EA SPORTS: You Can Have Both.🚨
Dear @EASPORTSFC ,
We are going to say something that perhaps you don't hear often enough from the FIFA/EA FC community:
We actually like what we are seeing with EA SPORTS FC 27.
After everything that happened with FC 26, we approached FC 27 with skepticism. We have heard promises before. We have seen trailers, pitch notes, gameplay changes and big statements about listening to the community — only to end up disappointed once the game was actually in our hands.
But this time, something feels different.
Some of what we have seen in FC 27 genuinely brings back elements of the gameplay philosophy that many of us have been asking for. There is a feeling that attacking can once again be rewarding, that manual defending matters more, and that some of the old football-game identity is beginning to return.
We want FC 27 to succeed.
But that is precisely why we are writing this letter.
Because EA SPORTS now has an opportunity to do something much bigger than simply release another annual football game.
You can give us both.
There is a huge part of the community that still wants FIFA 17 Ultimate Team back.
Not because we believe modern football games cannot be good.
Not because we hate EA FC.
And certainly not because we want EA SPORTS to stop developing new games.
We want FIFA 17 back because it was something special.
FIFA 17 represents an era of Ultimate Team that many players still consider one of the greatest periods the game has ever had.
The gameplay.
The menus.
The atmosphere.
The card design.
The chemistry system.
The market.
The pack openings.
The promos.
The squads.
The simplicity.
The feeling of building a team and actually becoming attached to it.
And, perhaps most importantly, the feeling of playing FIFA with your friends and knowing that everyone was experiencing the same game.
That feeling has not disappeared because people stopped loving football games.
It disappeared because the game disappeared.
And we don't believe FC 27 and FIFA 17 have to compete.
This is the part we want EA SPORTS to seriously consider:
Why not have both?
Keep developing EA SPORTS FC.
Keep improving FC 27.
Keep pushing the franchise forward.
But at the same time, bring FIFA 17 Ultimate Team back online as a legacy experience.
The servers do not have to replace FC 27.
They do not have to compete with FC 27.
They can exist alongside it.
Imagine opening EA SPORTS FC 27 and having the option to jump into a classic FIFA 17 experience.
Imagine being able to play the modern game with all its new mechanics, features and technology — and then switch over to the game that an entire generation grew up loving.
Two games. Two eras. One football community.
And there are several ways EA could make this commercially viable.
Make FIFA 17 Ultimate Team available through EA Play.
Make it a legacy title included with a subscription.
Offer it as a separate digital product.
Or, if branding is genuinely the obstacle, call it something else.
FIFA 17. FC 17. FIFA 17 Legacy. FC Legacy.
Call it whatever makes the legal and commercial situation possible.
We are not attached to the name.
We are attached to the game.
If the FIFA branding is the problem, then change the name.
If licensing is the problem, find a solution.
If server costs are the problem, build a sustainable subscription model.
If you are worried about cannibalizing FC 27, look at the audience.
People playing FIFA 17 in 2026 are not necessarily people who would otherwise be playing FC 27.
Many of them are people who have already moved away from the modern game.
Give them a reason to come back.
But there is one more thing we need to say.
We genuinely want FC 27 to be great.
And because of that, EA SPORTS needs to deliver this time.
Please don't let FC 27 become another FC 26.
Don't give us a promising gameplay cycle and then slowly take away the things that made it special.
Don't listen to feedback only until launch.
Don't give the community the impression that it has finally been heard, only to reverse course months later.
If FC 27 is going to bring back some of the old football-game feeling, then commit to it.
Let the game breathe.
Let gameplay be the priority.
Let skill matter.
Let manual defending matter.
Let attacking football feel rewarding.
Let players feel that their decisions actually matter on the pitch.
And most importantly:
Don't make promises you aren't prepared to keep.
Because the community is watching.
We have been playing these games for years.
We know what a genuinely good FIFA/FC game feels like.
And we know when something is being marketed as one.
We are not asking EA SPORTS to go backwards.
We are asking you to understand that going forward does not mean leaving everything behind.
FIFA 17 and FC 27 can coexist.
The old and the new can exist together.
One can represent the future of football gaming.
The other can preserve one of the greatest eras in the history of the franchise.
And EA SPORTS could be the company that makes that happen.
You could give millions of former players a reason to return.
You could give the current community something they have been asking for.
You could create a permanent legacy experience for one of the most beloved games in the franchise.
And you could prove that listening to your community isn't just a marketing statement.
So here is our challenge to EA SPORTS:
Give us FC 27 — and give us FIFA 17.
Give us the new game you believe represents the future.
And give us the classic game that so many of us still believe represents what made this franchise special.
Keep both servers online.
Put FIFA 17 into EA Play if that makes sense.
Create a sustainable legacy model.
Change the name if the name is what stands in the way.
Find a way.
Because the community isn't asking you to choose between the past and the future.
We are asking you to give us both.
We want FC 27 to succeed.
We want to believe in EA SPORTS again.
We want to be excited about the future of football gaming.
But we also want to remember why we fell in love with these games in the first place.
FIFA 17 deserves another chance.
FC 27 deserves a real chance.
And EA SPORTS has the opportunity to make both happen.
Don't waste it.
Give us the game we remember.
Give us the game we are beginning to believe in.
Give us both.
