If you're waiting on a reply, a peer review, etc. from me-please be patient. I urgently left to document a developing forest die-off event more intense than any I've seen. No obvious biotic agents, dead & dying include 2x Pinus & Juniperus, Quercus, & shrubs. RT! #WhatKillsTrees

Had a great time talking #WhatKillsTrees at AGU this year! I shared my recent work with PhD student Emily Perry on plant thermal limits in dry air #HotEnoughToKill, and PhD student Medelin @kantmedelin did an awesome job presenting her work on pine survival in the Anthropocene!!

When it comes to measuring plant thermal limits, are we in hot water?? Excited to wrap this project up with Emily Perry, @kantmedelin, and @MarylouMantova before #AGU24 next month. #WhatKillsTrees #HowHotIsTooHot

Great day sharing #WhatKillsTrees research @ French Embassy in Washington D.C. during the France Science Summit. From #MakeOurPlanetGreatAgain Laureate in 2018 during my PhD, to @UF_IFAS-@INRAE_Intl #JointLinkage in 2023 w/ @HCochard & @torresruizjm, 🇫🇷-🇺🇸 collaboration is key!

Exciting day for @kantmedelin as a heatwave-atop-drought is finally relieved. Which trees will survive, and which will die? Will growing up in a 'warmer world' be a benefit, or liability? Time will tell. #WhatKillsTrees

Fieldwork Alert! 🌲 Researchers from @INIA_es and @EEZCSIC are teaming up to understand #WhatKillsTrees. We're diving deep into the decline and mortality of Pinus sylvestris and P. pinaster at Sierra de Almijara (southern Spain). Pictures: @ajpelu; AV Lasa; M. Tognetti

Spent a wonderful afternoon in snowy Erfurt today with Henrik, discussing research ideas about #WhatKillsTrees and forest health, trying a proper Thuringia bratwurst at the Christmas market, and seeing the city.

Great day 2 in Göttingen, gave my #WhatKillsTrees talk & shared awesome recent work of @MarylouMantova on our PINE-PHYS project, attended fascinating talks (@ClaraAntonFern1 taught me that forest models are like 🥚), went underground to see roots, & returned to Christmas market!!

we are very glad to welcome @wmhammond in Goettingen! Very much looking forward to your talk tomorrow to learn more about #WhatKillsTrees at a mini-conference organized by @enrico_unigoe.
Wonderful first day in Göttingen, w/ tour from @Sharath_Paligi. How have I lived my entire life without knowing the joy of a “Christmas market” and more importantly, the warmth of a Glühwein mug and conversations in the town square. Excited to be talking #WhatKillsTrees tomorrow!

Our lab had a visit from @ShanKothari this week! What a great opportunity for everyone to learn from such a brilliant and kind scientist. After a thought provoking seminar today, he even helped @Gerard_Sapes install a psychrometer on a Magnolia tree we named Shan in his honor!

Had a great PINE-PHYS project season 1 update from @MarylouMantova, and first in-person meeting of co-advisors with new PhD student working on the project, Elisabeth Ilinca! Lots to learn about #WhatKillsTrees, and even more fun ahead, with this group!

First #PhysFest4 field trip led by @wtp_abq was a visit to long-term pinyon juniper tree mortality experiments at @SVELTER. The last time I was here, many more trees were alive! #WhatKillsTrees

Excited to be presenting on #WhatKillsTrees this morning in Antigua, Guatemala, with @JiriHulcr, @demianfgomez! A huge thank you to @forestservice and @USDA for supporting this workshop.

Excited for this first day of sampling & the next four years that we will be working on climate-resilient growth and survival traits for this ecologically and economically important species! I love working with conifers & #WhatKillsTrees, so this project is going to be a blast!

Two years ago today I finished my PhD @okstate on #WhatKillsTrees! Dissertations are strange, and although I didn’t tweet about it as much—the question I was really answering wasn’t
#WhatKillsTrees, but how to spend the rest of my life. Grateful for this job @UF every day!

New publication is out. Analyzing how extreme drought affect plant dieback according their functional type https://t.co/2EZ9RSMhsD @Tree_Mortality #treemortality #WhatKillsTrees #trees #mortality #Forest #Ecosystems #ClimateChange #Valencia region @CeamFundacion

Field trip! Today, me and postdocs @MarylouMantova, @Castillo_RaizaJ, and Yang from the lab had a wonderful tour of the microCTs available at the @UF @UFRSC today! Looking forward to scanning some plants soon as we research #WhatKillsTrees and #PlantDeath in the #Antrhopocene 🔬

I asked ChatGPT about #whatkillstrees. It did pretty well. Clearly its plugged into the literature. The future is wild and a bit frightening....and should I by thinking more about ROS in my work?

Two dead conifers outside the chocolatier in Bonito. Clearly, not carbon starvation, with such a large store of sugar nearby. #WhatKillsTrees
