Not concentrating on the source of a disease & scapegoating inconvenient #wildlife instead is a sure way of not even controlling that disease, let alone eradicating it.
Please join the peaceful protest outside the Senedd 11am-2:30pm 10th Nov to help #stopthecull🦡
The third and most important post in my trilogy:
Wales Bovine TB in Cattle and Badgers
Senedd Cymru, having been sold the expectancy of a favourable outcome from badger culling, should be mindful of what is being sold before embarking on such a controversial path and the truth as to what it can achieve. As well as 13 years of badger culling in England having achieved nothing, if you subtract the effects of enhanced gamma testing used in parallel. It is also possible to analyse and approximate the significance of any badger culling in Wales as equally pointless.
Cattle bovine TB infection can be quantified by that found and relatively predictable quantities left behind because of known inadequacies in current testing. However, to quantify badger proportional infection is far more difficult, although hundreds of thousands have already been sacrificed for the disease risk, disease prevalence remains unquantified in badgers, hence any risk they may have posed remains a conundrum.
In Wales however, we have a clue as several hundred have been tested in the high-risk areas. An AI search has revealed that this testing has been very selective and therefore cannot be judged typical for the whole of Wales and as we have seen bovine TB is relatively confined to only 5.15% of herds. As we see in low-risk areas of England with no disease in cattle there is no disease in badgers, so it is safe to assume that any badger infection will be confined to those areas associated with the 5.15% of herds affected. For this not to be the case, with badger infection extending more widely, No measurable effect is being translated into additional cattle infection, therefore one could conclude either any infectious badgers aren’t responsible for infecting cattle, or the badgers aren’t infected in the wider area.
If we use herd numbers as representative of geographical spread by dividing the badger population of Wales into number of herds, we can ascertain the approximate badger populations in the affected areas. Then by using the percentage findings recorded of those sampled we can see approximate levels of disease in the badgers in these areas. By comparing purely proportional risk with that form cattle disease found and by so doing establish statistical risk from both species. This of course doesn’t rule out the disproportionate practical unproven disease transmission difficulties badger to cattle, but it does highlight how miniscule in quantity alone that risk is along with the futility of killing badgers as being in any way significant in bovine TB eradication.
A 4-year period is used 2020 to 2023 because these are the years over which badger testing took place. The cattle data is sourced from APHA’s SAM records system.
The attached graph is a projection of bovine TB, based on actual disease found in cattle, 97.71% and calculation, based on testings findings of disease in badgers. 2.2%, a ratio of 44 cattle to every badger. Cattle with bovine TB, everyone of which has been in direct contact with other cattle before being found, leaving a disease legacy in those it has infected, in the slurry it has produced and maybe even in its offspring. Add to that with SICCT at 80% efficiency another 20% some 1,809 additional diseased cattle left behind. This is why another 9,000 infectious cattle are found each year and nothing to do with the 212 badgers which have succumbed to the disease pollution from cattle. So if Senedd Cymru progress with their badger cull they will be hunting down the irrelevance of 212 infected badgers, while tolerant of a continuation of 9,000 cattle annual infections and another 1,809 left behind, surely not economic prudency or even sensible.@WalesGovernment

Don't let Reform, Plaid & the Tories drag Welsh farmers down the wrong path!
Bovine TB in Wales,
Let’s put everything into perspective before we let the blood junkies lose with their favourite toy, to annihilate yet more of our wildlife. A big test for the new administration in Wales, as to how they deal with this somewhat misguided fervour of scapegoating the irrelevant, while refusing to face-up to the real issues.
Let us not be hoodwinked by the bovine TB preservation society that refuses the inconvenience of six-month testing and shut down innovative tests, such as that carried out to great acclaim and success in Devon. If you don’t look you don’t find and the sooner, you find the less time disease has to spread.
Firstly, let’s look at the population of both species in Wales cattle and badgers. Based on best available statistics
I hear the screams of indignation about the badger population in 2013, growing over the last 13 years. Let’s not forget badgers self-regulate population, to a certain extent. Badgers have also had to endure more traffic as human populations grow, illegal persecution, due to adverse publicity and vilification because of bovine TB, and some of the worst climatic conditions for badgers in the last 2 years, quite likely effecting infant mortality. Even if they have grown in population a bit, when compared with cattle it remains insignificant.@WelshGovernment @BadgerTrust @BadgerCrowd @GroupDevon @SaveMeTrust @ProtectTheWild_ @AmeleaTeckel @NWalesBadgers @DrRichardMeyer @RichardBowler1 @BBCWales

The Jane Goodall Act offered a chance to end the captivity & commercial exploitation of elephants & great apes.
It passed 3️⃣readings in the Senate process, yet now sits abandoned.
