Billy Wright, one of the greatest players ever to wear The Old Gold was born on this day. He led Wolves to 3 Championships and won 105 England caps. His statue adorns the stand that bears his name at Molineux.
Truly a Wolves and England legend.

Today is the 100th anniversary of the birth of Wolves goalkeeping legend Bert Williams. Born in Bradley, Bilston, he was definitely One of our own.
He kept goal during the truly Golden Age of Wolverhampton Wanderers. A legend, pure and simple.

Wolves signed Scot Hugh Curran from Norwich City. He played for Wolves until 1972, before signing for Oxford United, making 98 appearances and scoring 47 goals. He also won 5 caps for Scotland.

Wolves beat Liverpool 2-1 at Molineux. Liverpool's Emlyn Hughes scored an own goal, and John Richards got the winner. Little did we know that Emlyn would become a much loved Wolves captain later in his career, lifting the League Cup in 1980.

Wolves welcomed Portsmouth to Molineux for a 4th round FA Cup tie. Two goals from Peter Broadbent, and one each from Bobby Mason, Jimmy Mullen and an own goal saw Wolves win 5-1.

Molineux's lowest attendance for a first team competitive match was set on this day in 1986. Just 1,618 turned up to see Wolves draw 1-1 with Torquay United.
That's a record that will stand in perpetuity. The mid 80's were dark days for Wolves.

Wolves legend Derek " The Doog " Dougan was born in Belfast. A hero at Molineux. 323 appearances, 123 goals.
The Doog played in the 1974 League Cup final win at Wembley. I was there !
I also had the honour of meeting The Doog in person.

The big freeze of 63 was biting hard. Wolves hadn't played for 7 weeks. An icy Molineux was deemed playable after an inspection, and 10,000 hardy fans braved sub zero conditions to witness a drab 0-0 draw against Sheffield United.

Disgraced manager Don Revie's Dirty Leeds were the visitors to Molineux. A goal from Peter Lorimer looked to have given Dirty Leeds the points, but Bobby Gould equalised late on to give Wolves a share of the spoils, final score 1-1.

Wolves beat Derby County at The Baseball Ground 2-1 thanks to a last minute goal from Bobby Gould, a journeyman footballer with more clubs than Tiger Woods. He was very popular at Molineux, and became a fans favourite.

Wolves began their victorious FA Cup campaign with a 6-0 thrashing of Chesterfield. Wolves went on to lift the famous old trophy at Wembley on April 30th, beating Leicester City 3-1 in the final.
