Mike Black Departs Hobart to Become Athletic Director at Mt. Vernon
HOBART, Ind. — A major leadership change in Northwest Indiana athletics was finalized this week, as Mike Black has been named the next athletic director at Mt. Vernon High School, officially departing his role at Hobart High School.
Black’s move marks the end of his tenure with the Brickies, where he played a key role in overseeing Hobart’s athletic programs and supporting student-athletes across all sports. His leadership helped maintain Hobart’s strong presence in Region athletics while continuing to build on the school’s tradition and competitiveness.
He now steps into a prominent position at Mt. Vernon, a program widely recognized across Indiana for its consistent success and depth across multiple sports. The opportunity represents a significant step in Black’s administrative career, transitioning from Northwest Indiana to one of the state’s top athletic departments in the Hoosier Heritage Conference.
From a local perspective, Black’s departure leaves an important opening at Hobart, creating a pivotal moment for the Brickies as they look to identify their next athletic leader. The position will play a key role in continuing the school’s athletic success and supporting its student-athletes moving forward.
For Mt. Vernon, the addition of Black brings experienced leadership with direct ties to one of Northwest Indiana’s respected programs—further strengthening an already accomplished athletic department.
Heartland Sports Network will continue to follow developments surrounding Hobart’s upcoming athletic director search and provide updates as they become available.
