This issue @SAISD will create is not unique to Collins Garden. @LamarElemSAISD neighborhood students will not be eligible for bussing to Hawthorne based on the distance (just under 2 miles), but walking to school for most will become impossible. #wrongsizing @lamarcommadv

Collins Garden elementary is one of the 19 schools SAISD is recommending to close over the next two years. For many families, who walk their kids to school, this will make their journey further as they must cross under major highways, over train tracks and past neighborhoods with loose dogs.

Thank you, @CouncilmanJalen, for stopping by the Mahncke Park Neighbors Together event this evening and chatting with us about why @SAISD’s rationale for closing @LamarElemSAISD is deeply flawed. We are grateful for your ongoing support. #saveourschoolsaisd #wrongsizing

It’s extremely packed in Collins Garden on San Antonio’s southside. The elementary school is one of the 19 schools that SAISD recommended to close. Storm elementary which is just on the other side of the tracks is another school slated to close. Some of these students will be relocated far from this neighborhood.
