Why I avoid trading #XLE
First – borderline suicidal investing.
Since May 2008: +23%.
Since June 2014: +12%.
“Great dividends”? You’ve got to be kidding.
Now adjust that for real inflation since 2008 and 2014.
Second – peak recognition.
Peak #1: May 2008 → -59%
Peak #2: June 2014 → -78%
Now ask yourself: where are we?
Could this be peak #3? I don’t know.
But if I feel like riding downhill, I’d rather go to a water park.
I’m out.

Second most common question I get: why #XLP is not – or barely – present in my portfolios, right after healthcare #XLV and biotech #XBI, which I’ve already addressed.
So here’s my answer:
…in my view, the only thing it really protects… is consistently strong market returns and profits.
Since April 2021, #XLP is up… 1%.
Protection at its finest.
If someone tells you Consumer Staples is “the place to be + great dividends”… one question – why are you even listening to them?
Take care of yourself. Don’t let your brain get filled with this nonsense.
Protect your capital – and run from these people. As far as possible.
p.s. poor algorithms that have to maintain its balance as a rotational component of #SPY came up with nothing better than pumping its two key components – #COST to a p/e of 52 and #WMT to a p/e of 48.

Biotech? #XBI is down ~22% since February 2021.
If someone is telling you Healthcare is “the place to be” – they’re either a fantasist, or they don’t understand what they’re talking about, or they’re an idiot.
Most likely, all three.
Take care of yourself. Don’t let your brain get filled with this nonsense.
