Zegona has really stepped on the gaspedal regarding buyback pace lately. Up to 300k shares per day now, compared to 100k before
These buybacks were funded with the fiber transactions.
But #ZEG also generates cash!
I assume they come with a capital allocation plan incl. continued buybacks when releasing their results.
Buybacks have a double function here:
- obviously accretive when done at a low price (IIRC CEO said/implied fair value is at least 2600p)
- but it also makes sure the share price never drops hard, which removes to "opportunistic bid at temp low price"

- RANco talk from CEO puts pressure on Telefonica or MasOrange to make a move in acquiring them (max value from acquisition = needs to happen begore RANco)
- MasOrange publicly stated they are not interested in a RANco (for the time being) = chess move to soften Zegona's stance
"In that situation, with one less strategic alternative, Zegona could soften its stance and be more flexible towards a purchase by Telefónica"
- The dream scenario for MasOrange is that Telefonica acquires Zegona: certain assets would need to be divested and can be picked up cheaply
"In this consolidation scenario, Orange could acquire not only frequencies (which would have to be divided among Telefónica, Orange, and Digi) but also Vodafone's B2B business at a good price, and even some of its low-cost brands. This would also benefit from market repair, meaning improved margins from eliminating a competitor"
