I said "I can't, my dress isn't even paid for." 😅 God said, "Let's go anyway."
Today, take a deep breath and ask: "Is there anything I can do for you today?"

The context does not mention God as an [immediate] actor in this story at all, but only the Jews, Paul and Barnabas, and the Gentiles, except perhaps in the last words of verse 52 – “filled….with the Holy Spirit:. Therefore the implied subject of this participle should naturally be found among one of these actors, not God, unless a similar verse in Luke or Acts can be shown where Luke introduces God’s activity in a list of actions by another subject.
The grammar (lexical evidence) of this same verb as a middle participle was used in Classical Greek of soldiers and ships getting in line, according to an example found in Liddel Scott (I, 1. Fall in, form in order of battle,…formed in a circle…having drawn up their ships in four lines). It is not hard to visualize, that when Paul and Barnabas said they were now turning to the Gentiles, that those Gentiles rushed to get in line to profess their commitment of faith and be baptized. Luke is saying that as many as got in line for everlasting life through the Gospel, did indeed become believers!” Brian H. Wagner
“Appointed” – Tasso means to be lined up or arranged. This is in no way connected to “prooizo” meaning predestination.
“How should we interpret “tasso” which is translated “appointed” or “ordained”? Henry Alford the Greek scholar, argued that it should be translated, “as many as were disposed,” – The Greek Testament. “When I’m stumped with a …grammatical or syntactical or logical flow in Paul, I go to Henry Aldford. – John Piper.
Friberg’s lexicon suggests “As many as had become disposed toward eternal life”…
“In this case, the terms would not be translated as “appointed” or “ordained” but as something closer to “marshalled themselves, or disposed themselves.”
“Though the word in this place has been variously translated, yet, of all the meanings ever put on it, none agrees worse with its nature and known signification that that which represents it as intending those who were predestinated to eternal life: this is no meaning of the term, and should never be applied to it.” Adam Clarke
The faith of the Gentiles in Acts 13:48 would be very similar to what we saw Jesus saying about why some Jewish people believed in Him when others did not. Just as some Jews had learned to hear God's voice and follow Him, and so they recognized the voice of Jesus when he came, so also some Gentiles had been seeking a place in God's family by faith, and so naturally believed in Jesus when they heard that God had accepted them by His grace.
I am quoting John Wesley's commentary on the text and it makes a lot of sense.
As many as were ordained to eternal life — St. Luke does not say fore-ordained. He is not speaking of what was done from eternity, but of what was then done, through the preaching of the Gospel. He is describing that ordination, and that only, which was at the very time of hearing it. … But grace was then first copiously offered them. And they did not thrust it away, so that a great multitude even of Gentiles were converted…
Its also important to note that Acts 13:48 contrasts the reaction of the Jews to the gospel vis a vis the Gentiles. The Jews “thrust it aside and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life” while the Gentiles began “rejoicing and glorifying the word of the Lord”.. as a result, they are appointed to eternal life. Here, the human response to the gospel is highlighted.”
“In the immediate context, those who end up believing attended the synagogue on the Sabbath and heard the preaching of Paul, then joined with the Jews in inviting Paul to speak a second Sabbath, and after hearing him on this day, believed what they heard. The implication then, in Acts 13:48 is that they have been thinking and mulling over what Paul had said for an entire week, and after hearing him a second time, became convinced of the truth of his words.

A prophetic church is sensitive to the voice of the Holy Spirit.
May our hearts remain open, our spirits attentive, and our lives ready to respond whenever God speaks.

@EricaRN4USA What a powerful reminder during this Lenten season. May we all be attentive to His voice in our own lives right now.

We have done this dozens of times over the past 16 years. A member of our church kneels at the altar and we gather to pray over them as they head to a foreign land to preach the gospel. Last night we sent out Jason Kite and his wife Robin to Nigeria. #Acts13 #Missions @ken_pledger

If you feel called to missions, and are planning on pursuing that path, make sure you serve wholeheartedly and give sacrificially through your local church. They should feel the pain of your loss when they joyfully send you out. #Acts13
It was my idea to bring the Brick Bible to church today because the lesson in our Sunday School class benefited from the visual supplement. (Saul & the witch of Endor, brilliantly depicted.)
Joseph took it further & read it during the sermon, too.

From this man’s descendants, according to the promise, God brought the Savior, Jesus, to Israel. Before He came to public attention, John had previously proclaimed a baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel. #Acts13:23–24 #SOAP2023 #LoveJesus #ObeyJesus #thestone3
