Feeling defeated lately. Nothing really working like I planned. Today was a better day & the frog/stork image popped in my head. #TeachingIsHard! Don't make it more difficult by getting defeated! #DontEverGiveUp

Science #phenomena must be relatable. Ss want to study their interests. Don't over science the science classroom.

Went on a #selfcare weekend w/#family to @GreatSmokyNPS. There were speed bumps today, but the patience ️ was full to handle the day...tomorrow...we'll see how full the ⛽️ is! As Ts we MUST take care of ourselves!

#Teaching can be lonely. On our island(classroom) with only our ability... or so it seems. Don't forget all the stars(peers young & old) above your head. Stars are there to shed light, offer a reflection, or give direction. #Education

If you teach #middleschool you know there are words you simply cannot say. Some words are #GiggleTriggers. Ss studied the ? "How do objects change direction?" You get 3 guesses what I used & the first 2 don't count! #kids

#Questioning. Been trying to draw Ss into a discussion of what they think about science #phenomena. It's been slow, but I can see each class engaging. Fast, slow, or crawling it's still growth! #ThatsAWin

Don't expect Ss to "Get It" after 1 attempt. They will need more practice & experience. All Ss learn differently. They will need reinforcement & application.
#AfterSchoolReflection for 10/7/22
Celebrate the small successes of Ss. They may be small to Ts, but they could be BIG to the student. No celebration is too small to positively impact a child.

#teacherlife can be like a shaken bottle of Coke. Pressure on all sides! Find a release so you can control the stress as you let it go.

Doing #WhatsBestForChildren isn't actions alone. It MUST start with that mindset. A consistent #GrowthMindset will lead to a culture of what is best for kids.

You are never "veteran" enough to not learn from peers. Don't be blind to the innovation coming from that 20- something new teacher in your building.

If the socio-economic disparity & family unit disintegration is not addressed at the local, state & national level, the state of #EDU in America will continue to decline.

#ActiveLearning sometimes looks like complete CHAOS! Don't panic the goal is to have Ss gain experience. Experiences are not always quiet & orderly.

#AfterSchoolReflection for 9/13/22
All of us have Ss in crisis, or who are non-conforming. What should Ts demonstrate during conflict?
1. #ShowGrace
2. #ExercisePatience
3. #KeepCalm
If we escalate, they escalate. If we are calm, they will calm... eventually .

Old quote...yes
Overused...maybe
Out dated...no way
Accurate...definitely

#AfterSchoolReflection for 9/2/22
Correcting individual, or group, behaviors is a part of teaching. Ts can't forget to acknowledge when we see an improvement in the behavior. Acknowledge 2x more than we correct. Is that a realistic goal?

#AfterSchoolReflection for 9/1/22
Don't hold back on what you know Ss need to hear. Ts can be respectful, yet still stern, in shaping Ss educational outlook.
