James Walton Moore was the leading candidate to have been a #CIA handler known as Morris Bishop or Maurice Bishop, who met with #Alpha66 chief #AntonioVeciana in Dallas in 1963, at which time Veciana saw Bishop with #LeeHarveyOswald. This 1977 Agency memo reflects concern over the growing interest in Moore’s activities in 1963. And then, suddenly, HSCA staffer Gaeton Fonzi decided Bishop was another CIA man, #DavidAtleePhillips, and the Moore lead was promptly rabbit-holed by an entire generation of researchers.

Another question for the National Archives: What do they have on former Dallas CIA chief James Walton Moore’s interaction with the ARRB? The Warren Commission didn’t talk to Moore; the HSCA did, to marginal effect. What did the ARRB find out or fail to find out? We know Moore was “on the radar,” per this 1998 ARRB memo on planned “interviews and projects.”

505 North Ervay in Dallas: the address where #MauriceBishop met with his long-time asset #AntonioVeciana of the Cuban-exile group #Alpha66. One floor of this building housed the local #CIA office; another floor housed the local office of the #SecretService. Has anyone found anything on the Dallas S.S. chief #ForrestSorrels ever having any kind of working relationship with his CIA neighbors? Outside usual compelled testimony, internal documents, etc., the Sorrels paper trail is mighty thin.

The two Cubans prominently featured in this article— JURE’s #ManuelRay and #AntonioVeciana of #Alpha66— were both hopelessly entangled with and dependent on the U.S. government for operating funds and shared intelligence. Here’s the chapter that staff investigator #GaetonFonzi wrote for the House Select Committee on Assassinations (HSCA) on #AntonioVeciana of the Cuban-exile group #Alpha66, and his claims about an American benefactor known as #MauriceBishop. Veciana’s story is and would be fascinating even without adding #LeeHarveyOswald and the #JFKassassination to the narrative.

Cecilio J. Vasquez, “chief of staff” for #Alpha66 (basically the group’s PR/marketing guy), greets Cuban exiles in Boston, in June 1963. This #FBI summary indicates that most of the exiles who associated with Alpha 66 were also involved with #SNFE and by 1963 the two groups seemed to be interchangeable.
