24th of Tevet in #Hadiach
The 24th of Tevet marks the yahrzeit of a great Torah scholar and Kabbalist, the founder of the #Chabad Hasidic movement and the author of Tanya — Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Liadi, widely known as the #AlterRebbe
Our girls doing a family paint night here of a forest scene for 24 Tevet (#AlterRebbe's Yartzeit also set as our great-grandfather's R Yankel Zuravitzer's yartzeit, see story here: https://t.co/T7dXUU1Iq0 Why a forest? Because of the Kol BaYaar song Rebbe remembers him by.
My father says this #Vayeitzei Day 2 verse in special singsong that he heard in his youth from his teacher Reb Yudel Chitrik in Montreal (perhaps from the #AlterRebbe?) Is it also said like this in the Chitrik family? @ezalmanov @mchitrik @bentzysu?
Today's daily study Tanya begins Iggeret HaKodesh Letter #10 (which will conclude on Friday this week). So almost all week it's parts of this #AlterRebbe Letter #10. It's elaborating on a point (also made back in Tanya 25) that there are 2 sides to each mitzvah: >
And these two words, their pairing, is an innovation of the #AlterRebbe's "King in the Field" parable, and the sum of his Iggeret HaTeshuvah, and indeed what Chassidus brings to the whole high holiday season...
Happy Elul!
"Jacob’s heritage is likened to a rope" (#Haazinu). #AlterRebbe in Tanya Iggeret HaTeshuvah Chapter 5 uses the rope analogy to describe our multi-strand, intertwined & interconnected multifaceted connection to G-d (Igeret HaTeshuvah Chapter 5), and to our fellows (Tanya 32). >
There are a few Maamorim (Chassidic discourses) that I remember as "my first-ever", each in its own way/format: #AlterRebbe's #MahTovu in LekuteiTorah #Balak was the 1st for me in a class setting, summer of 5746, on the porch in Big Indian NY, with (uncle) R' Efraim Piekarski. >
> Things that seem clumsy, jerky or unnatural at first, usually become more natural and fluid with time. As #AlterRebbe says in Tanya (and in other sources): habit becomes second nature. Keep at it! It grows on you!
📜 Yahrzeit of the Alter Rebbe at the “Admor Hazaken” Pilgrimage Centre (#Hadiach)
On the 24th of Tevet, the #Jewish world commemorates the Yahrzeit of Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi, the founder of the Chabad movement, widely known as the #AlterRebbe.
As today (Tevet 24) is #AlterRebbe's yartzeit, reupping this tweet with a link to an interesting eulogy by #AlterRebbe after Maggid's passing that my father found.
@jorosenfeld See bottom footnote on this page, continues onto next page. Very beautiful. Interesting to note, this teaching attributed to #AlterRebbe here at the passing of the Maggid is not found in Chabad sources, thought it mirrors & echoes Chabad teachings. https://t.co/bXFntRSMPR
Part 3... The #AlterRebbe (the 1st #Rebbe of #Chabad #Lubavitch) was released from Russian prison on #YudTesKislev in #1798. Ever since, this has become a day of #farbrengen celebrated as the #RoshHaShanah of #Chassidus aka #Hasidic New Years... Good #YomTov!

For #YudTesKislev #19Kislev and #AlterRebbe's quoting Psalms: "Taste and see that G-d is good!" (This verse inscribed on Ark at Alter Rebbe's Ohel in Haditch). (Picture taken at @PriceChopper @market32)
Of course, it takes FOCUS to aim the ball right (no alcohol harmed in this water-pong) and the glow in (& because of) the darkness is also very #AlterRebbe-esque for #YudTesKislev tonight! 19 hours left now )on 19th of Kislev!) to https://t.co/PWwYHa79E9

> As many Shabbos House students and alumni may know, I (Mendel) am especially fascinated by #AlterRebbe's complex rich synthesis of paradoxical concepts and approaches, something we've developed here (a game, a curriculum, an objective) and dubbed as "Chasynthesis". >
Rabbi Zalman Lipsker of Chabad @EmoryUniversity is speaking now at #Kinus Melava Malka about a personal meaningful growth study of #AlterRebbe's Torah Ohr/Lekutei Torah (going strong for 15+ years!) Love the @chabadoncampus representation! LOVE ZALMAN!
Much Chassidic philosophical thought said & written on "physical creation is from divine essence" theme in #IggeretHaKodesh 20, but the profound beauty of this mystical thought is how much it impacts & empowers the earthly practical! Very #AlterRebbe-esque this #TimelyTanya! >
In #IggeretHaKodesh 17, #AlterRebbe sees Tzedakah as a broad intercity (or intergalactic!) highway, a hyperspace of sorts that allows for a unique degree of connectivity of (spiritual) worlds on very different wavelengths & dimensions. #TimelyTanya
Always loved #AlterRebbe's deep empathy (and the rich language!) in #IggeretHaKodesh 16, addressing those feeling challenged to give charity because of their own economic hardship. But this time around, realizing that this #TimelyTanya's paradox may have broader relevance >
