@bpfiedler ALA-APA is all about the library worker and I think we need to explore what that looks like beyond certifications in a time when so many of our library workers need advocacy help for their own health and safety. #AskLessa (2/2)
@hnltraveler I am thankful for non-kānaka appreciation of 'ōlelo hawai'i & hope that all who use our (once outlawed) language understand the mana and weight of its history and importance of its revitalization. #AskLessa
@Lessa4Libraries I noticed that one of your fellow candidates for president uses "Aloha" and "Mahalo" frequently in their statements. How do you feel about this appropriation of your culture, especially by a candidate not originally from Hawaiʻi? #AskLessa
A BIG mahalo nui loa to everyone who came out for my #AskLessa! I had a lot of fun & hope we can do this again soon. If you're an @ALALibrary member, don't forget to vote #LessaForLibraries during the election, March 8 - April 7 🗳️
@megandurazo Best: I make a mean carrot cake with cream cheese frosting
Worst: Chelsea Buns w/raisins & pineapple. I was def watching too much GBBS and overestimated my skills

@itsuhLEEsuh Emergent Strategy by adrienne maree brown is my most recent favorite. It affirmed a lot for me but also challenged me to think in new ways (including reading book chapters in nonsequential order! 🙀) #AskLessa
@que_suerte The creativity! From limited resources to limited staffing, we have all done our best in the worst of circumstances to be there for our communities. I just hope we also remember participate in (a lot of) self care b/c that work isn't easy! #AskLessa
i know you love to bake : what are the best and worst things you’ve ever made? #AskLessa
@sarisimas No matter what type of library we're talking about, I see them as community centers to help our folks grow, learn, & connect with others. Whether its the public, a school, a community college, university, or special library, we're all about community. #AskLessa
@armenianthunder ALA is ready for you! We need the strong voices of those who have lapsed or never joined to make it the association *we* need now & I believe we can do that by leading together for change. I believe in listening to members (& nonmembers) and acting on what I hear. #AskLessa
@andornotnear to improve lines of communication not just to ACRL, but to ALA as a whole to make connections across the association & provide as much support as possible. #AskLessa (3/3)
Any advice for folk serving ACRL state chapters? How can we take advantage of the ALA/ACRL infrastructure to support our members? 👋🏽😇#AskLessa
@que_suerte Another tough one so I'll pick two 😜: 1. My awesome co-worker and I did a @Cal_Humanities grant to celebrate APA month w/a multitude of great programs and 2. My final program as a Young Readers Librarian: Star Wars Day was a dream come true! #AskLessa
@davidlopez85 The easiest thing we can do is talk to them! Find out their interests & desires & help connect them with more people/resources to achieve their goals. They don't need to be official mentoring relationships (although those help empower many to ask for help!) #AskLessa
what’s the best YA book you’ve read recently? #AskLessa
@raypun101 I would say for both, my grandfather is my biggest role model. His nonstop work ethic and desire to be of service to others is exactly what I bring to the table in everything I do, whether it's planning a family zoom night or running for ALA President #AskLessa
@megandurazo This relates to @raypun101's Q: but this handwritten piece of paper titled "My Definition of Workmanship" that my grandfather used to keep next to his desk is the most meaningful thing I keep next to mine. It reminds me to always do my best (and even how to do it!) #AskLessa

@OscarRLanza Such a great Q! At this juncture in our profession, I think all of our work needs to be rooted in EDI and social justice. No matter where libraries take us, this lens will help us provide what our communities need rather than what we think they need. #AskLessa
@megandurazo Definitely leadership books. I like to have different strategies in my toolkit to help tailor my approach to each individual situation. Leadership is not a one size fits all for me. #AskLessa
