Top Tweets for #becauseofJOY
Last week the #becauseofJoy HT really reminded me that I’ve really got a vast network of folx who support me but also ride for me. And that speaks volumes to me.
I am no longer associating with #BlackintheIvory because i was told by the now solo creator that i wasn’t allowed/shouldn’t be called a co-founder.
I am overflowing with gratitude for everyone’s support thru #BecauseofJoy
But, i want to say this: we have to be careful with language and colloquism that suggests/incite any types of violence.
I’ve seen a handful of tweets like that and that’s not what I’m about.
Same for me. #BecauseofJoy that I shared my stories—but also encouraged others to peep it—to read, witness, and recall what it’s like for Black folx navigating academia. Very sad to know @smileitsjoy experiences the very thing the # spoke against.
About 98% of my interactions with the movement were with @smileitsjoy. She’s the one that created, updated, and notified winners who suggested merch. See Exhibit A. #BecauseofJoy
Y’all look at this #becauseofJoy tag 😭peek into a world where black fems are offered as much light as they give
#BecauseofJoy I learned that I am not alone in my struggles as a Black academic. I also wouldn’t have known about Black in the Ivory if it weren’t for @smileitsjoy. Continue to #CiteASista
I'm a very ghetto academic like pure hoodrat with a hood and it's #BecauseofJoy that I felt comfortable sharing some of the woes that come with unabashedly being myself and the repercussions of disrupting "the Ivory."
@thelibmaven I do not know just yet, but when I do, I will surely let you know!
@smileitsjoy, @RavynnKaMia, and @emalese_ are the brains behind those operations.
@smileitsjoy This had made me really sad! You both created something extraordinary; your amplification of the hashtag was what turned it into the power statement it became for so many, and now for your work to be erased by our very own is truly disheartening. We know! #BecauseofJoy
Nearly everything I’ve ever learned about #blackintheivory (well before the hashtag was officially created) is #becauseofjoy.
Wow, the out pouring of love from y’all (some i know personally & some i don’t) has moved me to legit tears. #becauseofJoy

Thread. Yet another professor stealing the work of a graduate student #BecauseofJoy
Furthermore, we all know that sometimes people don’t get along in partnerships; however, i was told we needed to sever ties because i was “radical” i could cause them from getting tenure.
B4 coming back to school I worked in PR & Marketing. So i know how hard it is to create a social media following, sustain a hashtag, website, and all that occurs on the back end. Movements don’t just go viral out of thin air. #BecauseofJoy BITI became a movement. I see you Joy.
@smileitsjoy you’re such an inspiration with everything you do. I see all the shit you do. #BecauseofJoy I feel empowered to go harder and be more intentional as a scholar.
I say all this to say #BecauseofJoy i found a real friend and real support in a really tough/new time. @smileitsjoy ACTUALLY supports black women not for online attention or clout . Beyond the social media bs, like in real life she supports black women.
This whole situation is so unfortunate. I’m glad people are standing by what is right. #becauseofJoy
