As a proud former mayor of Galveston I must acknowledge USDC SDTX Galveston Division Judge Jeff Brown who wrote the panel’s 2-1 majority decision. Cool to recall that it was Judge Jeff Brown who also found coalition districts legal under the VRA in the Petteway trial. Too bad the Fifth Circuit reversed that reasoned decision . AND IT WAS THAT AWFUL FIFTH CIRCUIT RULING that led to the DOJ letter that gave Abbott cover for demanding urgent midcensus redistricting. And now the same judge has found against the Texas MAGA mob efforts. How perfectly symmetrical! Let us hope that SCOTUS accords Judge Brown and his panel greater respect for their decision that race illegally played a part in drafting the 2025 Texas maps. I don’t need to tell you a lot is riding on this decision.
