Essentially, you are turning the soil and bugs upside down and letting their shocked, dead bodies feed your new plantings. In thin soils (like dryland soils) you would be bringing up the subsoil and trying to turn it into topsoil. #BEUatWork #PDCUg20 #farming #beupermaculture

Through our Practical Permaculture Design Course implemented in Nakivale Refugee Settlement (Isingiro District) we graduated 25 settlers both men and women on permaculture farming practices. #BEUatWork #BEUpermaculture #PDC2020

Compared to men, women and girls are still more severely affected by poverty, hunger and disease. When food is scarce, female family members often get the smallest portions. On the labour market, women are literally paid starvation wages. #BEUatWork #PDCUg20

For permaculture to thrive in this area (Nakivale Refugee Settlement) it will require putting indigenous agricultural practices at the front before industrial agriculture and fully involving young girls and women. #BEUatWork #PDCUg20
