🌏 In 2017, @ValaviRoozbeh, now a Senior Research Scientist at @CSIRO, developed a series of #R code that would become #blockCV, a #software package for assessing the accuracy of #ecological models. It was meant for his PhD work on evaluating species distribution models or #SDMs, but he decided to do more with it. "I decided to package the code, making it accessible to the broader ecological modelling community." And recognising its use beyond ecology, Roozbeh kept updating it to make it more widely usable. Now blockCV's been downloaded 47,000+ times, cited 350 times, and adopted by 7 other software packages. Other than in #ecology, it's been used for spatial models in #epidemiology, #RemoteSensing, #SoilMapping, #hydrology and #archaeology. In July 2023, Roozbeh was given the ARDC award for New Developers of #OpenSource Software in Ecology by @EcolSocAus for his work on blockCV. "Building and maintaining #ResearchSoftware comes with significant responsibilities," said Roozbeh.
